Anybody know how often casinos pay the feds those funds they have taken out of HPs? Is this an everyday/week/month/quarterly?
That's interesting that you still have to pay Michigan a state tax at all with it being earned or won on a reservation. But I know each state is different, and sometimes the gaming compacts that the tribes sign with the state could outline this too. Arizona does have a state tax on gambling winnings, but being that it was won or earned on a reservation makes it exempt. So never had to pay or worry about state tax on my W2-G's here just federal.

@sondor I know for a fact that HoChunk & Potawatomi give you the option to take out WI state taxes. I always tell them no. @dvandentop every single one of my HP's are the NA as they were all won in WI.

Oh, MI is different all right when it comes to 'need/greed'. I've read through the compacts, but they're so damn complicated it's hard to read what they really mean. Now that the state keeps breaking the compacts, and the casinos take all the advantage they can, I wonder if they make any difference at all.

Charlie, it's your state govs that won't allow class 3. They have to have a compact w/the state, and if (as WA has) the state will not do it, they can still do the class 2.

I just read Wikipedia's explanation of the chain of events that lead to the opening of a type II casino here (Gambling in Texas ) it seems that the State and the Feds didn't want type III here for what ever reason (my guess is the Texas Protestants didnt want gambling ) So George bush Sr had the only Type III in Texas casino shut down . a few years later along came Kickapoo but they operated what was then called electronic bingo and electronic pull tabs . but all this still dont answer my question . if the Indian casinos dont have to pay taxes then why duz the state care if it has type III games or not .seems to me they are making MUCH more $$$ the way its set up now .so the compacts that you spoke of should only come in to play when your talking about surrounding states with casinos .

I have Foxwoods take out the 6.9% CT state tax from every handpay. I've owed thousands in past years to the state, so I've learned my lesson. Just sucks when I can't take it out in Vegas. CT gets 6.9% of Vegas jackpots, too.

Sounds like MI. ................."we'll get ya no matter what you do"....wish we could have them taken out too. Host says it a 'political' situation. WTF does that mean?

Worked in several states while living in MI. Some I had to pay both states, some not by filing an OoS tax form, and got it all back. Patchwork of state tax laws.
