    VEGAS, We Get Around

    Hi All,
This is my report from our latest trip. We went May 21 - 29. So sad to be back.

    Saturday May 21

We had a smooth flight from Pittsburgh without any issues. I love Southwest. We arrived, went to the Rental Center and picked up our car. We ended up getting a Chevy Equinox SUV.
We got 2 vouchers from Alamo from some kind of class action lawsuit so for 8 days it was around $235. I was glad for the vouchers as it would have been more than we a used to paying. I had wifi on the plane and decided to try the on-line check in at Ballys. I was hoping that we could check in on arrival and didn’t want to haggle over a room as we already had a king smoking strip view smoking in the Jubilee Tower which was fine with me. We were only staying 2 nights anyway.

Upon our arrival our friends from Iowa was there to greet us with smiling faces. Who wouldn’t be smiling, we are in VEGAS! Went to key pick up as I had never received my text. When I signed up it asked for the carrier of my phone. I have a Tracfone, LOL. Since it was not listed I just picked Verizon. I never received a text but our room was ready. Got the keys and dragged our suitcases up to the room. Our room was all the way at the end of the hall and directly across from Drai’s nightclub. Not only was the LONG walk annoying the first night it was windy and the windows made a loud “rattle” along with the lovely rap music coming from the nightclub. It may have well been in our room, LOL. And the slots there really sucked. Just really sucked. That is my Ballys review.

Moving on, It was the day of Preakness Steaks so we went to the sports book at Ballys and placed a bet. I bet the trifecta and boxed it. Two of my horses came in with the third coming in 4th. Dam. We got a MyVegas monorail pass and went up to Westgate. We did good gambling there and our friends had never been there and I wanted to check out their new sports book. Really awesome, really. Slotted around for a while and spotted a $1 pinball machine that we had a few hits on last year. Put in a $20 and it hit 2 doubles and a red 7 paying $900. Never did get the bonus spin but who cares!

Back on the monorail and down to Harrahs. Slotted through Harrahs and Linq and went and put our name on the waiting list for Yard House. So for the rest of this report you can assume that I drank bloody marys and play slots at every casino that we stop at, so I don’t have to say it, just assume. Had dinner at Yard House. DH had Fish and Chips and I had Chicken and mashed potatoes and a salad. The food was good and I liked the atmosphere. I think this was the most expensive meal that we had, it was about $44.

Slotted through Flamingo, stopped at Jo Jo’s Jerky in front of Ballys as I had a BOGO Groupon that I had bought, and went back to sucky slots Ballys and went over to Paris with results just as bad. Uggg.

Today was Cabana day. My friend from Iowa and I had been chatting about this for months on end. We had never gotten a cabana and it was just something that we wanted to do. We had tried to find out numerous times the cost and weather or not it could be charged to our room. Between DH and I, we had about $400 in TR Credits mostly from social rewards because lord knows you can’t acquire too many from gambling on their sucky machines. It was only going to be in the high 70’s today so we decided to see if we could get a cabana for 4 hours. They said they had 2 left so we better hurry and decide. It was $99 plus 18% tip. We decided to go for it! We had our pick of cabanas as there was no one else there. We made our choice based on where the sun was going to be. The cabana had a table and chairs, 4 lounge chairs, a fridge with unlimited waters, a flat screen TV and they brought a nice large beautiful fruit tray.

I got really hungry so DH and I both ordered a hot dog to the tune of $16, Yikes! It was served on a lovely paper plate along with some catsup and mustard packets. Once our friend saw ours he ordered one too along with a beer. I was the only one who ventured into the pool. I really liked this pool. I love to swim and the deep end is 12 feet. Really nice clean water and I liked the music the DJ was playing. After an hour or so some college aged guys came in to the cabana next to us. They blasted the TV with some kind of tennis tournament which woke me up from my nap. They proceeded to pee on the tent wall and do push ups for each other while making lots of noise. The waitress came over and told them that they had to PAY for the cabana and could not just use it for free. They reluctantly pulled out their credit cards and paid up. They got a bottle of champagne and almost hit my friend in the head with the cork. What a bunch of assholes.

Would I get a cabana there again? Yes, it was a nice experience. I was able to use my TR credits to pay for it when we checked out.

We left at 2:00 pm and went back up to the room and changed and walked down to Ellis Island. We have eaten in the cafe before but have never had the BBQ so wanted to try it. Our friends went with us and they really like BBQ so they wanted to try it too. It was great. We also tried one of their homemade root beers. And you sure couldn’t beat the price. The cost for all four of us was half of what we paid the night before. You get two dollars off with your players card. We slotted around for a while and did good on the slots. I cashed out about $300 on some kind of Rio Machine that I have never seen before or since. It was a lot of fun. It was the night of the Billboard Music awards and we wanted to us Uber but when we went to use it they wanted DOUBLE the price as it was a peak time. So we cancelled and called a cab. We taxied to Bellagio, it was $10.

We slotted through Bellagio not doing much and checked out the summer conservatory display. It seems that they re-used some of the stuff from last years display. We walked to the back and trammed over to Aria where we went to the players club to get our jean philippe patisserie reward. Rewards all taken care of we all go up and choose our pastry. When DH gets to the register they tell him his reward is not on there. Hmmm, he is pissed. He says forget it. We take a seat and start to eat and he changes his mind and charges back to the players club. He comes back about 15 minutes later and we have to watch him eat as we were done, poor thing. I felt bad.

It must have been after 11 pm by the time we made it to the Cosmo as I have never seen so many people in my life. Our plans were to get a drink at the Chandelier Bar but there was not a seat to be had. Instead we went to the slots and ordered chocolate martinis while playing Magic Mike. They brought them in a martini glass too and they were delicious but Magic Mike was a real let down. :-(

We walked over to Planet Hollywood and watched a really good street performer playing a violin. He was really good and entertaining. Then we went in and lost the guys when they went to the bathroom and wondered around for about an hour looking for them. Once found we just went back through Paris and to Ballys as it was a long day and we were tired. The after party for the Billboard Music Awards were at Drai’s so that went on until about 4 in the morning but I was so tired I really didn’t hear it.
