    Relearning lower rolling ways

Writing up this thread as a way to hold me accountable.

Let me know if you think I'm full of shit (although maybe a little more delicately than that) ...

I've been upping my bets over the last few years. Partly in response initially to less gambling time when I did trips with the ex. And then it's continued. And I know that I've had many many excellent hits as a result but I'd like to readjust my baseline lower.

I was thinking that a good way to do this is to visit the local every few weeks with a small BR for me and plan to do 1x-2x min bets. I don't care abt offers there. And "train myself" to bet lower again.

Is this really a silly idea? I wouldn't want to start this in Vegas on my April trip after not being there for 8 months.

Open to ideas. And yes I know it can be as easy as "just bet lower, stupid" but I've had this problem. I started my AC trip at 2.64 bets and those were upped to 5.28 or 8.80 bets - which result in some excellent hits that get stored away or $$ that goes quickly.

Hey Dina. I think it’s a wise idea. We see a lot of people routinely beating $5-10 a spin and hitting handpays but very rarely anything massive and even more rarely coming away ahead. We’ve always gone on the premise that $5/10/20k isn’t life changing money so betting big pushing for those bigger bonuses never makes sense. We won’t change the way we play except we can now play a bit longer than we used to and we still have as much fun as we’ve ever had, still get reasonable offers and maintain a decent losing %.

    Hope you’re well.

Hi Dina! You can set limits for certain times of day, take a set amount down for the morning, then the afternoon, the. The evening. If you bet bigger you may run out of funds earlier. I don’t know if training at the local will help, because it is a whole different atmosphere than AC and Vegas and you can go home if you lose.

Thanks. I already do that with set amounts for different sessions in Vegas and AC. And it's treated me well.

I guess I'm thinking about this as a way to help me have a softer landing when I have to reduce my BRs starting later this year most likely. I want to continue to play to my hearts content and I won't be able to at 5.28 bets.

That's very true Billy and Moyra about the jackpot sizes.

I've noticed that my borgata offers aren't any better than 2-3 years ago in terms of FP or comps and my bet size and coin in have risen.

I TRY to adjust my bets based on where I am playing. Granted, I bet at a much lower average than you do, but I was creeping up there and it shows in my Win/Loss statements from last year. I don't mind betting a little bigger at places where the comps matter to me, like Palazzo and Cosmo. The losses are almost worth it to me, because of the pleasure I get when I am there.

But I need to make changes everywhere else, especially at the locals, because I don't care about offers there. This past year I got caught up in chasing Diamond at CET, and then the 25,000 points, and for me it was pretty much a waste because I don't even care about the Diamond Lounges, and I pretty much got what I needed for comped rooms anyway. Plus I was too focused on reaching certain goals each day, and that detracted from the fun. I plan to reduce my CET bets for the rest of this year. Anywhere else, I am going back to little bets and just having fun again.

I don't know if this answered anything Dina, but you sure got me thinking! Thanks!

Makes a lot of sense Chris! I'd like to keep my bets or coin-in higher at Vegas places but need to reduce them in AC. I may try an Empire City trip in the next week or two or three depending on work and see if I can do it. I noticed the creeping bets when I last went a couple weeks ago.

Dina, fabulous thinking! While I have graduated from the .40 -60 bet level to more the $1- 2 level, I have found that the wins can be very nice. Have I gotten the handy yet? No, but I am not really chasing one. I am playing at a level that is comfortable for me. My financial future, plus retirement in a few years, will always take precedence. You know that I have started trying some dollar slots, (bad influence, Kathy, bad influence!) , and there is a thrill betting $5 a spin, but it is only when I am having a very good day, but they are very, very limited.

I can say I now get bored betting .40- 60, but you know some great hits come along at more reasonable bets of less than the $5- 8 range. I think you need to think if would you rather have the bankroll to last longer when there is a dry spell, or would you rather have the chance of a nice handy betting $8 per spin? To me it is all about getting to play as long as I choose when in a casino.

    You can do it!!!

Stay off machines where max bet is $8.88.

I think max bet on most of the machines I play is $2.50-$3. If you get bored playing these, just add more alcohol.

When I stayed at MO in Vegas last may, I actually did pretty well on the baby-themed games betting $1.76. But I take your point -- it's tempting to up my bet to 5.28 or 8.80 on them.
