For example instead of $8.80 on penny I might go to $5 denom 2 coin machine. Or if I'm betting $3 penny go to $1 denom - 3 coin. Of course this means I'm changing mostly to reels.

My issue is that I digress too. Or if I don't bonus for a while betting at a lower level, I up my bet because "it has to bonus soon," then I chase at the higher level ...

I'm considering a trip to the local this week to try. Will post here if I do go. Or I may just hold off until my Vegas trip.

No advice from me either. After seeing how much I won on Top Dollar and then to jump around all night, blowing it in the HL room. I did have fun though.
I low rolled in the daytime and saved all my HL time for after dinner. Low rolling being from 1.00 to 5.00.

As one of the kings of low rolling on this forum, let me add my two cents. You will get 5 times more spins betting 40 cents versus betting $2 a spin.

That means you will also have 5 times a better chance of getting in a bonus round.

Doesn't mean you won't still lose, but it gives you a much longer playtime on your bankroll.

I'm interested in how it goes too. As recently as a year ago I rarely would bet more than $1.50 on a slot. Video poker a little different, at least on lower volatility games, but you could find me betting 60-80 cents most of the time.

I think the biggest way to re-train yourself is to restrict the amount of bankroll you bring or have access to. I used to bring no more than $300 with me and that could last me all night betting 60 cents unless I had some really bad luck.

That has grown to $500, $600, or even $1000 per day. Mainly because I had some big wins over the past year so I would have that kind of cash in my wallet going to the casino. When I know I have lots of $100 bills on me, I can end up in the high limit room. betting $15 per spin and blowing through them in minutes. If I know I only have $300-$400 on me I know I can't do that and I stay conservative.
I think that's really the best way in my opinion. only thing is that works well on a day trip to a local. on a several day trip though that can be more difficult I know.

Heres my take for what it worth . Gambling is an addiction and just like any other addictions your all ways left wanting more and more and ....more . allways chasing that 1st buzz that ya got when you won . the little wins don't excite you as much any more so we play more and higher $$$ amounts to achieve that same level of excitement buzz we got before . and whats really bad is the gambling industry knows this about us and throws new and more exciting game out for us play all, the time . whats the answer ? well as much as i hate to admit it....Abstinence does seem to work for me and having a budget . so that when we do go its with great anticipation for winning when we get there . right now i forecast a $1000 + what ever FP i have for that day i have for slots . minimum ill go with is $600 per day or i wont even bother getting in the car . As far as domination's go i play what calls to me (and i have enough do ra me to play lol) cause some time's certain machines need to be played at a higher level to get them to hit.

That's a good point @charlie50 and the flip side of my initial proposal of playing more at a lower level to get more comfortable.

I have noticed I'm playing more this year which I attribute to work stress and loneliness (if im being 100% honest). Both of those will change later this year and so maybe the answer is to just abstain more and plan on my big Vegas trip next month and then limit my visits.

Emotions okay a big part in gambling for me. Now that I have less stress and more happiness with myself, I feel less of an urge to run to the local and hide my feelings behind a slot. I am more excited about the meet and greets and group things now, which was not the case in the past.

You will find your balance, you are aware and working in a direction of your happiness.

Up until 2012, when I was still working full time, I made 3 Vegas trips a year starting back in 1976, and never took less than a $10,000.00 bankroll with me.

Yes I had LOTS of hand pays from the $25 a spin reel machines, but still ended up coming home broke most of the time.

I now take a bankroll one tenth of that amount and bet no more than $1 a spin. I have just as much fun and don't lose that much anymore.

Still get an occasional hand pay with those small bets too.

I can honestly say, counting all my gambling trips, including my locals, that I have lost over a million dollars gambling during the last 40 years, and wish I still had that million now!

In the long run the casino is going to come out ahead anyway, so why bet that high when you know the casino will eventually get it all back?
