    Tropicana Atlantic City

I need some help from anyone who has stayed at the Tropicana in Atlantic City. We are going back at the end of August so we can experience the true Borgata. We are adding a fourth night for a CET property. We are booked at Harrah's, but in a way I wouldn't mind changing it up and stay at the Trop. We visited the casino in April, but don't know anything about the hotel. Are the rooms nice, and which tower is the best? We currently have a renovated Atrium Suite booked, and we know Harrah's very well. Should we change it up or keep the suite at Harrah's? I appreciate any input.

Hi Zeus ... I have only stayed there many years ago, so can't really compare. I do want to give them a try soon though. I'm anxious to hear what others say as well. Bob and I liked the casino back in March and wanted to give their LL a try but it wasn't on a day they were open. They have a nice little fast food crepe place (breakfast, lunch and dessert crepes). I was skeptical but they were actually pretty tasty.

On the Borgata side of things, some friends were just there MDW and said that Amphora will be back downstairs in 2 weeks and the space is supposed to have been renovated (??). Serving style is back to self-serve and brunch on Sat and Sun included full omelet stations. All machines were open and, after a loonnnng dry spell, there was a $1200 HP 15 minutes before checkout. So, by August, it should definitely be true Borgata for you.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets to work planning the next visit immediately after returning from a trip. Haha!

I appreciate it, Denise! Some advantages with staying at Harrah's is that I know it like the back of my hand, I think it's a great casino, and by the time we get there the casino should be remodeled. And we have never gotten to stay in an Atrium Suite before, and the site said a remodeled room, so that would be nice. I just think at times it's nice to try something new. But I have plenty of time to make up my mind.

I had read that they were remodeling the Amphora Lounge, so I look forward to seeing it. I have had several winning stays at Borgata, so I hope to at least get some good play. That's all I ask for. Like Kathy said, she feels like the Borgata has been MLife'd, so if our experience there is anything like our MLife play last week, Lord help us.

That is a perfect description of what has happened to Borgata - "MLife'd" Luckily, it still has a strong attraction for me. The "welcome to your happy place" though doesn't quite feel as welcoming. We'll see; maybe next visit will be better.

On the Atrium Suites, I really hope they've done something special there. We stayed in one once and that was enough - pre-renovation, of course. It was like staying in a 70's motel. With the atrium design, it was a long walk around the center to get to our room on the opposite side of the elevator banks, and kids tend to love that style so there were kids running around the atrium center constantly. I know @Penguin stayed in one more recently so he might have better insight. I know what you mean about Harrah's, though. I know the layout well and, while I feel they are lagging when it comes to cleaning the place up, I do feel comfortable being on the floor alone early in the morning and late at night. I'm a little less comfortable at the Boardwalk casinos like Caesars where there is easy access from the boardwalk to the areas of the hotel elevators with no security presence, hence when I try out Trop, it won't be on a solo trip for sure.

We stayed at Atrium in Feb. Worst rooms we ever had. Dark and dingy. They can remodel all they want but cannot make them bigger. We canceled one night and one weekend. We spent a couple of hours at Trop. Good slot floor and like any other will take a bit to learn it. Lots of old games we don't see anywhere else. No idea on rooms but you should be able to score better one. Parking garage is really old but functional. CET has really taken out much of the games we like. If someone rated the Trop rooms on par with Harrahs Waterfront then we would go to the Trop.

Harrahs on our shit list. Gave them 1100 tc 2 days in a row plus food cost plus something for the room. They gave us $10 in FP. Joliet and Bettendorf our preferred now. Our understanding is that Ican took very little if any money out of the Trop, but put it back in to fix it up.

I appreciate the input, Darrell. When I booked the room the renovation looked nice. I like the location of it versus walking all of the way to the back of the resort for the Waterfront Tower. If we do stay at Harrah's and move to a different room it will be one of the more updated rooms. In April the Waterfront Tower room we had, while big, was looking rough around the edges, and I am sure that they will not be renovated by the time we get there. We were told it is part of the renovation budget they have.

I liked the slot floor at Tropicana. Allen had an issue with a slot not printing out his TITO, but instead started playing the music that plays when a handy is won. It took right at 45 minutes for a slot tech to come assist. She said there were only two of them working the entire casino. That put Allen off a bit. From what I have seen the rooms at Tropicana are sort of on the small side, but I don't have to have a huge room, and especially for just one night. I just wonder what the take on them is. The Tropicana has a lot more food options than Harrah's, so that is a plus.

Stayed in Atrium suites once about a year ago. Agree with @Penguin -- they are the amongst worst place I've ever stayed. The worst being a three way tie between Hooters, Fremont Hotel, and Travellodge on Long Island - Hooters for the overflowing toilet, Fremont Hotel for the bedbugs, and Travellodge for the peepholes between rooms and needles in the parking lot.

For the Trop, South Tower is nice/great. North Tower is pretty awful except top floor. The Chelsea is quirky and worth one stay -- especially if you can get the PH room with the fireplace. Havana is close to parking and that's about it.

Super shitty slot service at Trop. Takes forever to get paid. On the good news side, it's the only place I've ever hit a jackpot waiting to get paid on another jackpot.
