View Full Version : Wynn slot tournament experience/hotel help!

I'm toying with the idea of a Vegas trip in August after a very busy July in terms of work (and only have taken three vacation days so far this year!) and would love suggestions/thoughts about some hotel ideas I'm toying with.
1. I was invited to a Wynn slot tournament (8/10-8/11; $25k). Has anyone participated in one and can share their experiences? I've never done a slot tourney other than a quick spin one at Borgata while I've been down there. I think I'd get two free nights (Monday and Tuesday) and no FP/resort credit. Otherwise, I have a 3 free nights/$300 FP offer that I could use for Sunday-Wednesday at Wynn that I would probably use.
2. I've never been in August -- is it really too hot to take advantage of the pool for more than an hour a day or so? I would maybe book Mandarin Oriental for either Friday-Sunday or Friday-Monday but not if it's too hot to spend some quality time at the pool. Otherwise, Aria is booked for that weekend so I can't use a comp offer so I'd either see if I can go to Cosmo or possibly branch out and try a new place :)
Thanks!

August is hot lol, not too sure about a comparison to July, forecast is 93 for Thursday when I arrive which sounds great to me. Personally, I would take the 3 day and FP, I've been in lots of tournaments and only placed once for $300 FP. Wishing you good luck on your trip, always well appreciated after a busy month!

I seldom go out to the pools but I have been to the Wynn pools in July and August but only when a friend has had a cabana there. It's fine as long as the misters and fan are on you, otherwise it's hot as hades.
I would suggest you take the 3 day and FP as that 25k tournament which I was also invited to isn't one of their fancy tournaments. The tournaments they have that are over 150k are like Bellagio and Aria with private tournament room and food/drinks and I've been a guest of my friend Terri's when she has participated in them and they are quite fun. The 25k tournament will likely be at Encore in the same area as their daily tournaments and won't feature anything but possibly bottles of water and the chance of course of winning one of the top prizes. Last summer a friend of mine did a 25k tournament which required a partner so I did it with her in the Encore tournament area. It was okay but nothing special in my opinion.

August is hot. I concur with others that unless you are in a cabana it is only tolerable for an hour. I have played in a slot tourney at Mandalay it was ok they state only 200 people but usually they have 500+ and your odds of winning are slim but it is an interesting experience if you haven't done one and there is always a chance you could win something for nothing.
Enjoy/.

Thanks everyone. I think I may go ahead and book it and forgo MO for a comp offer and take the $300 fp offer from the Wynn.
Which means I have AC 7/24-27, Vegas 8/8-12 and AC 8/22-24! Will definitely be bringing less BR to AC for the first trip and hope to be as lucky as I've been recently to come home with more than half of it!

DK528 that sounds like a busy schedule (but in a good way)! I'm going to have extra vacation days to take as well (seems like "things slow down in the summer" doesn't apply to a lot of NYC law firms lol). Have a great set of trips! Looking forward to the TRs!

inceptiongeek a good and potentially expensive way :)
All booked for Vegas! Flying out on JetBlue and first class United home (only $100 more than economy). Had to switch around my hotel plans as Cosmo was sold out on Saturday. Now staying at Wynn Fri-Mon on a different offer - first time I've ever gotten comp weekend rooms from Wynncore - and $150 FP. Then staying at Cosmo in terrace studio Mon-Wed with some FP
Now the planning begins!

DK sounds like a great trip you have planned. I too would take the FP over the slot tournament offer.
Enjoy your stay and good luck!

Great deal on the upgrade to 1st class for $100 more. I've never been able to justify upgrading for myself because it's always been ridiculously more, but I'd scoop that deal up in a heartbeat! Enjoy your planning Dina, that's half the fun!
