Evening All,

Following a hastily arranged brief encounter with the lovely Evoni, we found a bit of affirmation to our supposition that the Slot Fanatics forum seemed a lot quieter these days. Not having had the chance yet to look about, I hope the new forum builds on the success of the last one and the decanting was more amicable than last time!

First things first though, about us...

Generally, we're passive slot fans for 40-46 weeks of the year and proper low-rolling but dedicated slot junkies for at least 6 weeks of the year, depending on where our various travels take us. I (Billy) run a few companies and she (Moyra) is a Biology and Chemistry teacher in Scotland. We have carefully built a schedule that takes us primarily to Vegas for July and much of August every year and we try to cram in as much slots as possible in our time in the States. Last year, this was easy because we were in Northern Nevada and we also managed a few shots in Amsterdam, Monte Carlo, Nice, Antibes, Cagnes sur Mer and Cannes.

More specifically, we're a few days into this summer's venture. Having taken the life changing decision to move to the States permanently (if you'll have us which is more doubtful by the day...) we're combining our Vegas run with a househunting tour of Arizona and chucking in a few days of hiking and looking at red rocks in AZ and UT along the way before heading back for a good bit of R&R for 3 weeks in Vegas. We have taken inspiration from a lot of the people on this forum and beyond and have started the photos and videos piece. It's a bit pathetic in terms of amounts betted, won and lost but it's great for family and friends to tag along with us whilst we're away and proved fun for us to look back on as well.

Hope everyone is grand, dandy, winning and well. I will kick off a new trip report piece presently and transplant the current trip report from a Slot Fanatics to a new home here presently.

Cheers,

Billy

Welcome to JWE forum. How soon do you plan to get moved here permanently? Since you like hiking and the outdoors you may want to consider the Reno / Tahoe area if it is not too late to be in the running. In any event, look forward to hearing about your Summer trip.

Hi Cassie,

As soon as possible but, logistically, more than likely a couple of years from now. Scotland is a great place to be from and, being Scottish, we get all the recognition of the UK without the inherent antipathy toward the English. The climate is fairly rubbish though and, friends and family aside, we have no firm ties to the UK with regard pets, kids or anything of that sort. Moyra isn't particularly enjoying her job at the moment and I can do a lot of what I do from the far side of the moon as I've got good people running my businesses back home. We wouldn't sell any of the houses as those will provide a rental income for us to ensure we don't need to do anything outlandish if and when we get here (thoug we're firmly not allowed to retire say the immigration lawyers we've spoken to).

Cheers,

Billy

Thanks Seemoreroyals,

We visited those areas last year and, whilst nice to visit, we weren't grabbed by them massively. Our initial intent was to move to the outskirts of Vegas (that is still in the running) but Arizona, with the year-round climate it has and the proximity to Vegas was the logical place for us to start looking in detail. Thus far, it hasn't disappointed.

Cheers,

Billy

My favorite part of Arizona We have visited is the Sedona Flagstaff area. We like Laughlin Bullhead City as well but in the Summer it is way to hot there. I am surprised you did not like the Tahoe area. Good luck to you regardless of where you decide to move to.

Welcome to the forum! Without getting too political (because I consider myself a centrist like most Americans except for the sad fact that you only hear about either extremes of the spectrum if you turn on the tv), I think it is such a shame that a couple like yourself has such a hard time obtaining the right to immigrate to the United States. My family moved from the Republic of Georgia in 1994, when I was 6, and we came on political asylum because they were persecuting Jews left and right in the former Soviet Union. Even then we had a difficult time entering the United States and my mom and newborn sister obtained the rights to come here while I was left back with my dad and grandparents until we were reunited two years later. Sadly, things haven't changed much. I worked in the immigration clinic during law school and it is amazing how little we have come in the way of creating proper legislation and procedure to allow people to obtain legal entry to the United States. And while there are something around 11,000,000 undocumented aliens in the US today, the ones that pay taxes and work and are law-abiding people are MORE LIKELY to be deported or forced to leave the country than those who do not pay taxes and work off the books simply because they have an electronic footprint. And don't get me started on immigration courts (also known as the "Board of Appeals") where lawyers are almost non-existent (since immigration law is almost non-existent in the US) and the judge has free will and absolute discretion to rule however he or she pleases with an almost impossible appeals process. Apologies for the rant, but what I am trying to say is that it is unjust and unfortunate that individuals like you and Moyra, who would be a tremendous benefit to have in our country, have to go through a painstakingly difficult immigration process with no promise of succeeding. Damn shame.

Appreciate the post IG,

It is a frustration. When we hear of the border issues and the proposed amnesties which are mooted every now and again, it does seem a shame that the immigration is quite so tightly controlled. A waiver stating that you commit to various things, including not claiming any sort of benefits and not committing any sort of crime (or else you're on the next rowboat back to Scotland!) would do us fine as we're only trying to bring positive things (such as brown sauce and an incomprehensible language) here!

I'll find a wee place on the forum (may well end up here) to chart that journey as we need a lot of information and help along the way with how things actually work over here in comparison to back home.

I'll be straight onto the Visa office as soon as we're back home though. The process is officially about to begin.

Cheers,

Billy

Welcome to the Forum.

I am off to England and Scotland August 10-25th with my 18yr old son for his graduation trip. I have family in Glasgow and will tie in some EPL and SPL football games in.

I am hoping to explore northern Scotland for a few days and get off the beaten track. I have been to Skye and was blown away with its beauty and history.
