Driving to San Antonio to see our daughter and family a week from this Sunday, and we will be spending Sunday night in Tunica to break up the 21 hour drive.
Rather than read the reviews from Trip Adviser, I thought I would ask here first. Has anybody stayed or played there and how did you like it?

I have stayed and played many times but haven't been in over a year. I was supposed to go this weekend but had to cancel my trip. The rooms are comfortable and clean but a little dated. I think there is a good mix of slots and you can walk next door to Gold Strike if you want to play some of the newer games.
The Diamond lounge drinks were pretty strong but I remember the food just being kind of blah. Of course if you drink enough you won't care how the food tastes. Lol
The hosts there have been generous in the past, I have had no issue after they look at my play with them giving comps for food so I would recommend that you check with a host after you play to get meal comps.

I really like it, go on junkets. The Hotel is fine, decent selection of slots and you can also play next door at the Roadhouse. I like the roadhouse as it's usually less crowded. Drink service at both places is order from the machiene and they bring it out. Diamond lounge is more a snack than a meal, Last time I was there Roadhouse had a bar roped off as a Diamond lounge and had like cookies or something but the Bar was empty and I think they had Bar top games. Like GeorgiaGambler said the Host desk seems pretty willing to write you a comp to the Buffet after you play a while.

I agree with Georgiagambler and sondor that it is a nice hotel and decent selection of slots. I was there in April and the Diamond Lounge did just have snacks (cheese, fruit, crackers, popcorn/nut mix and a salad). My friends host did comp us a buffet meal and a nice dinner at Binion's Steakhouse (which was excellent). The Gold Strike is about a 2 minute walk across like a small alley way and they have a much better selection of slots (IMO). I think they had quite a lot of the newer slots than Horseshoe but Horseshoe was good too. We didn't care for the Roadhouse as it was real dark in there and much older looking. We walked in and basically walked right back out but you may like it. We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet at Gold Strike if you want to have a nice breakfast meal to start the day. Look forward to hearing how y'all like it there and how you do on the slots. :) :)

We had fun there and at the roadhouse. Roadhouse is small but had some new games. Gold strike has a great steak house and lots of new games.. And you can walk to all and get your drink on!

I haven't been to Tunica in years, but Horseshoe is where we always stayed and liked the rooms. It's not Vegas by any stretch but still is fun. The casinos are pretty spread out, as in miles apart through the cotton fields except for Horseshoe, Gold Strike and Roadhouse.
Have a safe and fun trip.

Gene, I've never stayed there, but I've gone over and played there many times. I usually stay next door at Gold Strike MGM). I have heard the rooms are nice, some of them can be quite a hike by Tunica (not Vegas) standards. Machine wise, it's a crap shoot IMO. They have made some updates in the last year or so. Know that Tunica does not get machines as quickly as Vegas, or even as quickly as my local. It's a long procedure getting approved by the MS gaming commission. I've had their buffet several times, and its usually the best in Tunica IMO, but of course that is always subject to change. Very nice salad area, and their Asian station and Home cooking (if you like both of these) are great. Their desserts look beautiful, but have always disappointed me. I haven't eaten at the Steakhouse, but am hoping to next trip, now that I know my favorite waiter is there! Horseshoe doesn't give bonus points, so they tend to comp fairly well for food. Always check to see if there's a special-play XX minutes or earn XX points and get a free buffet, or go to the host desk and ask. All they can do is say no, and if they do comp, you save your points for another day! You can order drinks from the machines there-BONUS!
Have a great trip!

I like the HS a lot. I have played there while on junkets. I love the buffet at the Gold Strike, though. It has beer and wine included. It is just a short walk from the HS.

I have stayed at the Horseshoe Tunica a few times. Rooms are fine. The casino is ok but I enjoyed playing at the Gold Strike more.

Gene if going down I-35, might consider Winstar. It's in Oklahoma just north of the Texas boarder.

Tunica-TX. Yup, long 'detour' but we went the same way to get to Austin. Heck, may as well go to Kinder LA. too. We did :redface-new:

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk That's where we stopped on the way back last year, but this year we are driving straight through all the way to Harrah's in Kansas City and spending a couple nights there. :)

The hotel rooms are almost exactly like the ones at Horseshoe Bossier City. The hosts are very generous with comps too. I think you and Sharon will like it!
Have a wonderful trip, GG and Sharon! Look forward to hearing all about it.
