For Shirley Lima, the thrill of victory had never tasted so sweet.
“I’m still in shock,” Lima told the Whig-Standard of her $33,858 haul at the OLG Casino Thousand Islands. “It was a mistake, a good mistake.”
The grandmother of 12 had been a regular at the OLG Casino and she decided to play the slots last week on seniors day. It all started out as just a typical day at the slots.
According to the Kingston Herald, Lima was playing her favourite game on the CHINA SHORES Konami Machine, which has a free spin bonus feature to which there is no limit for the amount of free spins.
Lima usually plays with penny bets but after winning some cash earlier in the day, she switched over to five-cent bets.
This is when the magic happened.
As she reached over for her Pepsi softdrink, Lima had inadvertently pushed the max-bet button. She didn’t realize the mistake at first and kept hitting the spin-out button a few more times.
“I couldn’t believe I was betting $11.25 a spin,” said Lima. “Much to my surprise, that spin entered me into the bonus round of the game.”
The bonus feature re-triggered more free spins and Lima ended up with more than 700 free spins, a record at the OLG Casino Thousand Islands.
For more than an hour, “it just kept spinning, and spinning, and spinning,” Lima told the Whig-Standard. “When it finished, I had $33,858. It was a complete and utter shock.”
With her winnings, Lima plans on paying off some bills and taking a vacation with her husband.
All of this after reaching for her Pepsi. And here we thought softdrinks were bad for you.

You and me both! I read about this earlier where it stated that twice during the bonus round she left the machine to go outside to smoke. HHH

Oh yeah many times I've played the wrong denomination or accidentally bet more than I wanted and NEVER not one single time has anything ever happened except I lost my money much faster. Good for her, what a great accidental bet.

For m, accidentally hitting Max Bet on a machine like that is like hitting the DELETE button accidentally on the computer. Bankroll Deleted as fast as an important email or file.

Gotta laugh about the cigarette though. I would probably sit there in agony because the excitement would make me want to pee but I would not leave for a second!

Why doesn't this happen to me when I hit max bet on purpose? :-)
