View Full Version : Harrah's Cherokee Valley River
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article34233576.html
So, North Carolina is getting a second casino this month. It will be 1/3rd the size of the current Cherokee casino. I am wondering what the folks in Georgia feel about the new casino? It will be closer to you, but the lack of size and eateries seem disappointing. Will you drive further to Cherokee due to the amenities and use Valley River for a quick fix?
I just hope it frees up some rooms for us in the Charlotte area!

Thanks for the article. Planning a trip down to Harrahs
Cherokee at the end of September and was wondering if I should stay at this new one. Looks like I'll keep my original reservations at the older, bigger Cherokee . Looking forward to checking it out.

I would love to go to Cherokee the weekend of September 26th because they have mailed us all kinds of free play for that weekend, but after 6 nights in Vegas I think I had better stay at home.

Hell I'd go and low roll why let the free play go to waste I think you will hit on it as a old college prof. I had said pma positive mental attitude. hhh

Because I do not have the self control to run through the free play and possibly a small BR. I would end up hitting the atm and then cussing myself all the way back to Charlotte!

I have found the slots to be tighter than tight at the Cherokee Casino. But, the facilities were wonderful.

Thanks for the tip. This is a road trip via AC where we will spent 5 days, so I think I'll get most of my slotting madness out of my system there and go day tripping in the Smokies while I'm staying at Cherokee.....and of course the beautiful drive along blue ridge on the way down and back.

I'm planning to visit the new casino on their opening day 9/28 (after my homework is done of course- lol)
I like checking out new casinos. I will make a decision which one I like better after I see if I win anything also see what kind of comps I get there.
I heard they are going to have Earl of Sandwich so my BF will want to go just for that....

OMG, Earl of Sandwich!!! [emoji7] That will be a big improvement from the food court at Cherokee.
You are a brave soul going on the first day. Please report back!

zeus. I'm with you on hoping it will free up some rooms at Cherokee. I'm sure they have planned for expansion already at the new casino hoping to get a lot more of the GA traffic.

Yeah! That seems so long ago! I will definitely go there some time. The Earl is one of my favorites. Love the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich.

Yep! On PL at that time. If memory serves me correctly, you were with DW and, I think your uncle was there also. We never did get to meet up. One of theses days I'll be back!!

The carpet and wall decor looks familiar! I think they saved it from the original casino and are recycling!!:p

Years ago when I first visited Cherokee I thought it looked like a huge barn with continous rows of slots. And the lightning strikes that would go off in the ceiling periodically. My how that casino has changed.
I truly hope that it is successful and that they do expand it. Like you, it is an hour further from Charlotte than Cherokee is. And after being spoiled with a 150k square foot casino with over 4,000 slots I am not sure the distance would be worth it for a 50k square foot casino with 1,000 slots.

It is surprising that CET is opening new casinos during their bankruptcy, I would think it would be the opposite,

Gene, the casinos are owned by the Eastern Tribe of Cherokee. CET just manages the casinos for them.

I'm planning to go to the mini M & G from "that forum that shall not be named" on the weekend of Oct. 23. If I'm able to go, I won't be able to gamble too much. Just going to see some old friends. At Cherokee.

I just checked. I've got 3 nights comped, $100 FP, and $30 food. I'm not going any time soon, but that's nice to know I've got something.
I guess they do not want me. We are not showing any offers for Valley River. Oh well. The sad thing is we are passing up on $300 in free play vouchers and a Grab The Green ($40 - 500) voucher at Cherokee next weekend. That one is eating at me, but I just have to say no!

I had $125 + the semi-monthly coupon for another $35 for next weekend. I threw all of them away earlier this week.

Sad I have zero FP at Cherokee for Sept and October and I have donated more money to them than any CET property.

That's exactly what I said. I have lost more money in Cherokee than anywhere else but it is because I visited more frequently. I visited more frequently because the freeplay was too good to pass up and many times I lost the FP and my money too. So if they stop sending me freeplay, then I'm less likely to go which is their loss because they won't get my money.
I will still be going because BF is too close to 7 star for us not to try to go for it. My plan is to play on his card to help towards that goal. It can't hurt my FP at this point because I'm getting zero.

If anyone ever learns the logic of CET FP, please let the rest of us know!! It's certainly not based on one's recent coin in, otherwise I would not be getting anything right now.

GG, as often as you go and the coin-in you generate, I would think they would be sending a limo to your house to drive you there and give you great free play!
Yeah, this is our first year giving TR a bit of our BR. I remember mentioning that last month at Caesars they had given us $225 in free play and Sassycat, who is 7 star, said that she gets nothing like that. And since we have gotten home we received an email offering $250 in November and December. :noidea:

When I was feeding the slots a few coins, the majority went to Vegas casinos. I rarely got any FP there.(Always got, and still get offers for, free room) Got more FP at Cherokee, which I visited 4 - 6 times a year.
