View Full Version : Money you missed by not betting max

You know that feeling you get when you have a nice hit but you did not max bet.
I was thinking we could share the times when we missed out cause our bet was too small. About 15 years ago I was playing a video quarter game with a spaceship theme. It was 9 quarter max but I was only betting 3. I hit the best thing possible but it paid 1800 quarters but if I had bet the 9 it would have paid 10,000 quarters.
Around 2008 I hit 8 QH on a progressive machine. Same problem I only bet $1 which paid 1000X for $1000. I would have won $3300+ if I would have bet the $2 max.

A few months ago at HoChunk I won $1030 on a 80c bet. Had I played the $3.20 max I would have won $4120.
Some people say it probably would not hit the same outcome at higher bet.
Here is the winning video that some of you saw before. https://vimeo.com/140011227
What horror stories can you share ?

I try not to look at it that way. Playing Platinum Quick Hits I snagged the 5 Platinum symbols playing minimum bet of 60 cents. I won $3000 which pleased me immensely. If I had been betting max bet of $3 I would have been out of money and would have won nothing. $15,000 would have been lovely but I know it was never meant to be.

I look at it also as it would have been a different outcome, different RNG. I will say, "I wish I had bet max" every time- like in my post from today about my $720 hit on a $1 bet on reels- had been betting $2 often, would have been a nice HP. I don't let myself get upset over it though now, but used to.

You know how you bet max for an extended amount of spins then you lower your bet and presto the money shot happens. One of these days it's gonna hit for me on max bet.

The joy of hindsight...

A win is a win in my books and managing bankroll is key to having fun, swinging for the fences causes a lot of strikeouts...

I am a low roller. If I bet max, I would get about 20 spins, and I would be done for the day.

The only time I bet max penny is on an old Aristo machine that is getting hot.

On my first big jackpot, back in 2007 when I first started playing high limit machines, I bet only 1 coin on a $5 machine and won $6000. To this day, every time I see this guy, Terry, he always rubs it in that if I had bet max, $15, the jackpot would have been $25,000!

i cant even remember all the times it has happened to me. or let alone last bet before going to zero and cant max bet anymore. not sure what biggest loss would be.

most recent i can recall is a willy wonder 3 wild reels woulda been like $400 or so. i got $40 since only betting 40cents.

I can think of one for you dvandentop, your one penny bet on Perfect 8 where you landed the bonus and got two perfect eights lined up with drums. That hit would have been huge! Apparently it still haunts me and it didn't even happen to me! HHH

I don't worry about it because I don't have the bankroll to max bet. We always go slotting for at least 5 hours at a time. If I max bet I would most likely be broke in an hour :crushed:

My sentiments exactly,Laurie. I guess I'm just a low roller at heart. If I maxed bet I would be broke in less time than it took us to drive to the casino.

I usually bet in the 2x to 3x range on pennies but if the machine is hot I will give it a max bet for a couple of spins. Would really like to land a big one on those infrequent max bets. On reels I am comfortable in the $2 - $3 range with an occasional $5 bet. Most Ive hit on $5 machine is $400 twice. Looking for a HP on $5 machine for my bucket list. I have had a HP on pennies, nickels, quarters, 50c, & dollars in my past. Still need one on 2c credits and $5 or higher machines.

There was one time on Big Ben. I was down to my last spin, and had 10 cents left on the machine. I played the 10 cents, and all the damned clocks came up. I got like $10.00. It would have been $1,000.00 I think. Still haunts me from time to time.

A long time ago, I did witness a guy win a jackpot and looked so miserable. Would of won $50,000 on the old red, white and blue 7 reel slot instead of $2500, if he bet $3 instead of $1.

I was low rolling my last $20. I hit 7 quick hits for $160, I NEVER get more than 4 quick hits, would of been $1400 but max bet was $4. Still not as bad as the guy above...ha!

I saw the same thing happen to someone on a WoF progressive. I think it was over 1.2 million she left on the table because her husband wouldn't give her another dollar to bet max.

When I won $817 on Stampede at CP on $1.50 bet last month I thought for just a second "what if I had been betting higher?". Possibly my first handy? But then I remembered how no one betting higher was hitting squat on it, so that never crossed my mind again.

Yikes! That poor guy will never hear the end of that as long as he lives!

I lined up 5 progressive on Willy Wonka. Just stared at it for a minute. Really???? And I do play max a lot. Just not this time.

Without any hesitation, she just start wailing on him.

I saw her later that year and she still has not made up for it yet.
