View Full Version : Cosmopolitan Changes to Identity Club

There have been some changes to the Cosmopolitan Identify Player's Club. Due to the changes to points it looks like they lowered how many points it takes to earn Sterling and Platinum but for some reason Gold remains the same.

I forgot to add this is what the old guidelines used to be for earning points. It now takes $2.50 per point for slots though video poker has decreased to $6.00 per point now.

Old guidelines

Earning Identity Points
$1.50 through a slot machine = 1 Identity Point
$7.50 through a video poker machine = 1 Identity Point
$20 table game bet = 1 Identity Point
$1 of lodging, dining or retail purchase = 5 Identity Points

!!! Thanks for the update, ace reporter Evoni!!!

So instead of earning one point per $1.50 wagered on slots, now it's one point per $2.50 wagered. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this means that if you look purely at slot coin-in, it previously took $120K to reach Platinum, whereas now it's $125K. Since the 3X multiplier for Platinum players doesn't count toward tier progress, now it costs $5K more in coin-in to reach Platinum than it did before, despite the lower overall point level required (50K now, as opposed to 80K before).

A bigger story is that Gold players now have to work a lot harder to achieve/maintain their status. Used to require a minimum of $30K in coin-in; now it's $50K.

The other interesting thing is that they've left the points for non-gaming spend at exactly the same level: five points per dollar. So spending money on hotel, restaurants, shopping, etc. becomes a relatively more valuable (and lower-risk) way to increase tier status.

And now you don't earn any Identity points for table games, sports book, or electronic craps -- just for slots, VP, and resort spend. Wonder how they plan to reward their table players???

Finally, I just have to say: Although it's a stated benefit of Platinum status, I have only gotten turndown service ONCE at Cosmo, on one night of a multi-night stay, despite repeated requests. Sigh...

The other thing is that Gold now only earns a 2X slot multiplier, rather than the 3X they used to earn alongside Platinum.

You're correct, that's the way I see it too. I'm really unhappy about Gold now only making the 2X for comp points.

I was hoping the new owners would do something to attract new gamblers but they seem to be going in the opposite direction. Of course they are still the only player's club to offer that perk of 2 companion nights for Gold and Platinum members.

Yes, my suspicion is that they kept the points for resort spend at the same level to encourage non-gamblers to continue pouring $ into their clubs, restaurants, hotel, and onsite merchants. After all, that's the one way they really make money at present. Though like you say, that doesn't do much to attract new gamblers -- or keep current ones happy.

The new rate of earning points in my opinion puts them around the same as other strip properties. However, it has always been easy to get offers out of Cosmo so if they continue to send them out as in the past, it might be worth it to give them some play. For those who make Gold with them the 2 free nights a year that doesn't count against comps along with the 2 free nights for a companion to have their own room is a nice perk that other strip properties don't have.

However the changes being made were not in our favor and I got an email from Cosmo today that tried to spin it that the changes were actually in our favor and it was now easier to move up tier levels. I don't think so, LMAO!

The 3x points really seemed too good to be true. I sort of miss the place and was thinking of going back, but these new terms completely turn me off. I used to easily make hundreds in points off the tables.

Looks like they made it easier for new sign ups to increase levels but harder for those that are gold and higher. Plus no table game points. That's different and ridiculous imo.

I'm not sure if this will get buried here, but let me see :) I will be a Vdara for a few nights and I not like MLife so I try not to give them much play. I am phasing CET out as well. Right now for the Strip, Grazie is my Go To and Wynn is my backup with TI for emergencies - HHH. I was thinking this trip would be a good time to give Cosmo a focused day of play to see if I can get their attention.

I have played at Cosmo a couple times, but very briefly. The first time to do the $100 thing, and another time while waiting for an ECC meeting :) Do you think they already have me categorized as a deadbeat, or can I generate something fresh with a day of play? And what kind of coin in would you think might work?

Any other thoughts?

If you didnt take any rooms and then non play them i think u should be ok. Especially if it has been a while between visits.
I am sure they are always looking for bigger play from new customers and will get ya some nice teaser offerd

Chris, I think that's a great idea to play at Cosmo while you are staying at Vdara. If you didn't already have a play history and card with them I would have suggested for a new Identity member to just play for a couple hours at $2 to $3 a bet. Since you already have a little history with them and as Derek mentioned aren't staying with them on a comp I think 4 hours of play around that level would generate offers or if you get 5000 points in a day there that would do it too.

Thanks Derek & Diana!

I will most definitely give it a shot. Hopefully I can get some play to make that 5000 points, or it will be a stretch for me!

Until recently Gold also got 3x points, but that was one of the recent negative changes they made to their identity club perks.

As already mentioned it was the Blackstone group. Here's a article about the sale from early last year. The new owners however didn't take over until around December 2014.

As mentioned in another thread, I had been getting comps like clockwork:

3 nights, $100 food, $525 freeplay. The last one ended today and when I called I found there are no upcoming comp offers. It will be interesting to see if they dried up completely or just paused. As a result, when I go in April my plan is to earmark only $650 for my 3 day stay. So for me there's been a change....

RiverSong, to go from $525 in FP to nothing is just unreal. I had been holding off on giving them any play, but now it looks like I will be waiting even longer. I have been waiting to see others experience since the sale. I hope for your sake a good offer pops up soon.

Keep with your plan, Boots and Evoni got offers that go into April. If you do give Cosmo play, it will be interesting to see what kind of offers you get compared to what they gave prior to the sale. I like it there, but want to give V/P a try and join the rest of you PWs. :cupcake: Nhcris

In the past I have been in between Cosmopolitan offers for a few weeks before they started to arrive again, especially if I currently have a upcoming trip scheduled with them. After the trip is taken then the offer or offers usually start arriving again 2 or 3 weeks after the trip. I doubt the offers have dried up completely unless during your last visit you put less then 4000 or 5000 points on your card a day, without factoring in the 2X or 3X you get for certain identity tiers or if you low play your April trip.

Marketing offers from all casino groups can be strange. I didn't low play Mandalay Bay/Delano last year but earlier this year my offer was crap, 2 comp nights with low free play and resort credit. Then today out of the blue a offer appears for $500 resort credit, free play and 3 comped nights and discounts on spa, show and cabana.

Go figure.

New corp. owner & new marketing director - doesn't bode well.

I haven't played there since an April M&G ('12 or '13) when Irisheyes was breathing fire in the Chandelier Bar:) I have consistently received seasonal offers of two comped nights but
haven't received one since last year.

FYI - United Airlines is still handing out the little Cosmopolitan boxes with coupons and mints on the LV flights.

They have been giving out free tickets to Hozier now for over 2 months, likely sending out additional offers now because the show isn't booking up as fast as they thought it would.

The only free tickets that tempted me this year was for Craig Ferguson earlier this month.

New promotion just arrived in email, so new management is still sending out offers. Since the extra gift cards for $50 are every 5000 points and X2 and X3 point levels count, it's a decent offer I guess for Platinum level Identity players with their 3X. Wish they hadn't downgraded Gold Members to 2X. :( My initial gift card is only $200, but I'm sure it's a lot higher for other Identity players.
