I'm looking at a crazy quickie trip that has a 7 hour layover in Denver. Thinking about renting a car and taking an adventure to check out casinos in the area.

Anyone familiar with the casinos in Blackhawk or Denver area?

Yes! You're looking at about and hour and fifteen minutes to Black Hawk from DIA if the weather and traffic is nice. If it's snowing it would be much, much, longer. If you've got experience driving in snow it's ok, but if not I don't think I would recommend it as a learning experience :)

Black Hawk is where most of the action is located. Ameristar is the biggest one up there and has the most amenities. The other larger ones are The Lodge, Isle of Capri, & Monarch. There are many others too. All casinos are non-smoking except for the tiny Wild Card Saloon (as far as I know).

Central City is just above Black Hawk. The largest casino is the Reserve. If you love history there's a lot up there. Great old buildings, abandoned mines, grave yards. They have a great little main street with many small casinos in buildings with a lot of history. Doc Holliday's, Famous Bonanza, etc...

Allen has been to Blackhawk a few times when he visits his office outside of Denver. He said that the Ameristar casino is very nice. But like foamy said it is a bit of a haul. And Allen said that traffic can sometimes be iffy.

Just make sure your homework is done first GG or you'll have to deal with "you know who"[emoji6]

Thanks for the info Warren, if I go it will only be a few hours so I will probably check out Ameristar. My hope is to play enough to earn a future room comp so I can go back a visit again if I like it. It will be in 2 weeks - I hope there is no snow yet. I will by tomorrow if I'm going - thanks again!

Don't worry I will definitely have my homework done before I go :-)
The last class kicked my ass but I got a 98.4 for my final grade so I'm happy. Going to Cherokee on Friday for a quickie trip before I start my next class on Monday.

I haven't been to the CO casinos, but have been to Denver a bunch. Just make sure you aren't planning on traveling through the city around rush hour during the week. Traffic on I-70 gets really bad, last trip took me an hour and a half to get from DIA to downtown which isn't that far. There isn't really an alternative route to get directly across the city. Outside of those times you should be fine.

Also, though I haven't been I know the Monarch is the same owners as Atlantis in Reno- so if it's anything like Atlantis would be my first choice in my opinion.

Thanks Kdk, it will be on a Sunday so hopefully not too bad with traffic but will definitely keep that in mind.
