I play mainly VP and I know by the variation of game I play what type of volatility I will have to deal with. As far as slots are concerned I am interested in what others have to say and I am all ears.

I like high and med volitile slots. One clue is multipliers during bonus(buffalo, timber wolf). Sticky wilds is another. A bonus that can give 100's of free games .
Low volitile slots are super stacks like igt .

High volatility slots: Konami is one good example of it. Have you ever played China Shores? When its dead, its dead and could be for a long time before you even get even what you are betting back. It could be dead spin after dead spin. When its hot, it is hot but not for long and you get more big wins on a single spin. Hit a bunch of free games on china shores and you will find out that 75% of the spins in the free spins are low payouts like 5 or 10 cents if betting minimum bet or just completely dead, between 5%-10% big amount win spins. I get like maybe 2 or 3 really good payouts in a bunch of free spins with the rest being no payouts or very little here and there less than what you are betting. With low volatility like WMS slots, you get wins more often at least what you are betting back and you will not see many big wins on a single spin like with Konami.

Low volatility? More wins more often, very rarely a high payout spin win
High volatility? More dead spins more often with very huge amount wins on a single spin every now and then.

That is how I see high vs. low volatility slots. Slots that are in the middle could be ones like quick hit where you can win more often at least your bet back and every now and then sometimes you will see a spin with a high payout win, seeing higher payout wins more often than low volatility slots like WMS games. I slot hop a lot with Konami slots because of its high volatility. When I get off, someone else usually gets on and then gets off, and then I get back on and sometimes it could start paying out again or maybe waiting til after a few play it before getting back on what I already went on.

Thanks Warren for the link. Very helpful and finding out some konami games are actually low volatility is a bit surprising to me. China Chores and China Mystery which I play a lot are high, but lotus land and gyspy fire that I play a lot too are low, which I truly agree with after viewing the link. I have trouble getting big wins on lotus land and gyspy fire in their free games a lot and not that often where I get big wins on the games and the free games come up quite often on them, so that makes sense being low volatility games. Lotus and Gyspy are the ones like buffalo where in the free games for every 2 bonus symbols, 5 more games trigger and the multiplier comes up for the wild symbol. Even though the payout is not that great, I still have fun playing them and can sometimes stay on quite a while before having to move to another machine. Same thing with my other favorite chinese babies, I can last a while on them too and the volatility is listed as medium for the babies.

Oh and this link is very helpful too on finding where games are located in the casino, which I think every casino should have on their website.

One thing I am confused on for volatility is the game selexion because it seems like when I play any game on it, payout is pretty good no matter which game I select (if its china shores, china mystery, dragons, etc). I have trouble doing well on regular china shores, but on game selexion it is easier to bonus and payouts are more often.

I usually find a BIG top prize coincides with an equally high volatility.
I've seen some high limit reels with a progressive attached to them as well.
Common sense will tell you to stay away but I've been known to stick a few hundred in them and see what happens.
