For whatever reason the Motley Fool has a bunch of analysis of Vegas casinos. In this week's edition, they did an article on the worst reputations in Vegas.

I used to LOVE Luxor when it was new and shiny. Such great quasi-Egyptian kitsch! Talking animatronic camels, and a virtual ride about pyramid power! But the shiny really wore off by the early 2000s. Remember George Clooney's quote about Luxor in the film Up in the Air? "The place is a shithole. Nobody stays there."

I think I remember Luxor being featured in Mars Attacks. I think it was newly opened then.

Stayed at Luxor in the 90's and it was okay.... But we were with our young children and my folks. It was nothing special back then but I wasn't picky and the pool was great. We had a fabulous time and loved our stay.

I posted another thread on your best casino hotel stay. Going on the opposite direction. my worst stay was at Harrahs Las Vegas. Room was tiny as hell and the room key needed to be inserted in the room to activate the AC. The worst part was the "free" water bottles in the room that were obviously so old they tasted of plastic.

Derek, I think that until gaming in Vegas increases drastically that they will continue to maintain them as they are by slapping a coat of paint on them periodically. They really can't afford to build new resorts in that market and keep the stockholders happy.

Yeah would be dumb to build a new casino for ones taking in cash and prob not losing money so a win win for them

Plus Vegas needs to have all levels of hotels. They truly cannot all be Bellagios, Wynns, Venetians, etc. They need the different price points so pretty much anyone can afford to go.

Very true!! When we first started going to Vegas - we always booked through Expedia or something like that and usually if you wanted on the strip - it was Circus Circus or Excalibur.

Interesting article (and responses!).
My husband, daughter and I only stayed at the Luxor for one night, back in 2001 (?) in the pyramid. Just to take my daughter to Blue Man Group.
They drove to Cardiff, CA the next day to visit family and I moved over to Treasure Island to stay with friends for the next few days.
The room felt odd with the slanted wall and there was only a shower in the bathroom. It was okay though.
I didn't see the cool indoor boat ride as it was already gone by then.
The first time I stayed at the Mirage (and my first visit to LV in 1992), I was disappointed in the tiny room and tiny bathroom! A surprise after walking through the beautiful casino.
I remember when the Excalibur was built and thinking how "cheap" it looked - when they opened, they advertised rooms for $39 per night.
I've never stayed there and have only been in the casino, briefly, once. I do remember reading, years ago, the 26 year old that won the first Megabucks jackpot at Excalibur and it
was like, 37 million?
I would have to say the worst room I've stayed in was at the Flamingo (1997)- only because I got my very first casino offer "Fabulous Fifties Offer - Stay for only $15 a Night!" LOL
That was a fun trip and I won $300 on the $ Blazing 7's and won playing .25 slots called Betty Boop and an identical one called "Ring the Bell" (if you got Betty or a carousel horse
a voice would yell "Ring the Bell" and a ball would go up and land on your "win" fun bonus! Sorry for getting off-topic lol Yes, that balanced out the blah room.

A friends daughter got married at The Excalibur about 12 years ago. We all stayed downtown at The Golden Nugget (cause that's where the groom's family preferred). The chapel at Excalibur was very nice but what I enjoyed was the small reception dinner afterwards. It was upstairs in their restaurant that specialized in prime rib. It was a lovely private room but the prime rib was the best I have ever had. Full of flavor and so tender it melted in your mouth. I don't care for the casino myself but I will always remember that dinner.
As for The Flamingo, I used to like it but their slot selection has gotten so bad over the years and their Go Rooms are terrible! Gaudy pink plastic with a glass wall for the bathroom. You can hear everything that is going on in there. I've been married 42 years, I don't need to hear what hubby is doing in there. We haven't stayed there in years.
