Well it's all over the internet now-except here. MGM Las Vegas will be the first Strip resort to start charging for parking, no doubt related to the arena they're building.

I'm sure it will take about 5 minutes for the rest of the casinos to fall in-line and 'bang' - a new source of revenue is born!

I heard rumor about this awhile ago and thought it was just a matter of time. I'm sure CET will follow suit, at some point.

Don't understand why they charge us resort fees for things we may not even use, now this. I pay to park at the airport if I fly and then pay to park at the resort if I rent a car. Uber is looking better all the time. They are getting out of hand on all these extras, but what can we do?

It was bound to happen with them adding a 20-something thousand seat arena in just can't expect people to walk from wherever they're coming from

But then they should charge for parking at nearby hotels on days when events are happening ... if they're using that as a reason or excuse to begin charging. But charging 365 days a year at Mlife properties and also specifically at the garage they're building for the arena and citing this as the primary reason (along with some improvements to existing structures) is weak.

Yeah, it's bad enough that they change the slot payback percentage every year, along with the Black Jack pay out, they are always trying new ways to screw us out of more of our money. Grrrr!

yeah i do not think it is necessary to charge on non event days. could do just like big sports areas do and charge event parking fees.

You guys have missed the point. It's now a parking 'experience' ....and a new source of revenue! Soon there will be a new elevator 'experience' and a new check-in 'experience'. All of which will require a fee. This is the age of add-ons, c'mon get with the program

Are you sure treyster? I thought they were enhancements to improve the whole guest experience. hhh

I'm not happy to see this even though it doesn't effect me personally as I don't use a car in Vegas. It's hilarious the positive spin they are trying to put on this announcement!

I guess it was to be expected as attendance is up in Vegas but gambling is down so they are going to nickel and dime like other industries have also learned to do, for example cruise ships. For those who have gambling status at the properties that will start charging for parking it won't matter except possibly they might be able to find a parking space. I've been with local friends and those who rent cars when they couldn't park and walk in with me where I was staying because Valet and self-parking was full. I'm thinking this is bad news for rental car companies in Vegas since I would think it would discourage some people in the past who rented cars from renting them and instead they will use Uber/Lyte.

It's an absolute experience! Once you've lost all your bankroll, instead of just exiting as normal, you will now be greeted by a friendly parking garage attendant. They make $10 an hour and speak little English, but they will collect your $10. I hope you saved enough money to pay for parking.

I read the article about this in the Las Vegas Sun and it also noted that MGM is going to charge for Valet parking as well. I suspect that there will be a discount/free program for premium MLIFE members (probably Platinum and above). This sucks for me because I almost always get a car in Vegas and use the garages (because it is quicker and always cheaper than valets and cabs) -- besides, you can't pick up hookers in a cab (at least most of the cabbies won't let you do it).

On the forest but for the trees side, although it is huge and really spread out, I've found MGM's parking garage to be the nicest of all of the garages on the strip. Bellagio is second.

Edit: just kidding about the hookers.

Usually get a car in LV so this is bad news. Wonder what the coin in or pit boss begging minimum will be to get parking validation?

Yeah, don't like this either. I almost always drive to Vegas just because it's easier overall for me, and don't have to pay for transportation from the airport. I guess though if they make it easy for slot players to get this waived either by status or even just by getting 100 points in a day or something then could be okay and would make it easier to get a spot, since I go to gamble anyway. I agree, the spin on this is ridiculous too. Wonder if CET will hold off for a while and advertise their "free parking" for a while like they did with resort fees. I'll guess Cosmopolitan will be the first competitor to start charging since they are surrounded by other MGM properties and near the arena.

According to an article I read yesterday Cosmopolitan is sticking at the moment to they won't charge. Venetian and Palazzo says they are looking into it, which likely means they will start charging and I forget what the article said about Wynn, if I can locate it again I'll post a link.

Found the article it was from this article on Vitalvegas:

http://vitalvegas.com/mgm-resorts-announces-90-million-parking-overhaul-and-new-parking-fees/

"When asked if they’d follow suit with instituting paid parking, they responded: Cosmopolitan, no. Stations, no. Wynn Resorts is “monitoring the situation.” Caesars Entertainment and Sands, no comment. (So, that’s a “yes.”)"

I bet MGM, CET, V/P, and Wynn colluded in advance and drew straws to see who would go first. Straight up money grab and will part of normal Vegas soon.

While no more free parking at MGM properties in Vegas is such a pain, this article about it I thought was hilarious!

Do we gamblers really not lose enough money inside the casino that they want to start screwing us before we even come in?

yeah, it's been all over our news here in Phoenix too. Between us and S. Cal it affects us probably more than anyone else.

I think the press release said second quarter 2026 so April which makes sense as the arena is opening 4/8.
