View Full Version : Local and Deciding Factor on Going

Just curious, I'm sitting here with a long boring weekend in front of me. My DH has to work all weekend, so of course I'm toying with the idea of going to my local. My local is notorious for being extremely tight. In fact I haven't had a winning session there since last summer.

So my trigger for going to the local are boredom mostly. What's yours?

I just like to play so I agree if I don't occupy my time, I will be tempted to go. I'm picking up my niece and nephew tomorrow to keep myself busy so I won't be bad.

Darlene, I wish I could add to this thread, but my closest is three hours away and you can hardly ever get a room there. I hear all of the stories of people hitting up their locals and get a bit envious. But then again, I think it may be a blessing in disguise.

I guess my deciding factor is how much free play they're giving me. I live ten minutes from Grand Victoria but I won't go there because they only send me about $18 in free play every week, plus they have no reciprocal relationship in Vegas. Harrah's Joliet, however, sends me $75 a week and they have frequent multiplier days. So even though it's an hour drive and I have to pay tolls, I'd much rather go there.

Even further for me is Four Winds, but they send me $175 a week plus certain days I get more. In fact I almost went today... I would have gotten $340 FP today!!! But I didn't feel like making the drive out there.

Our local is about 2 1/2 hours away and I can't remember ever just going there without staying the night and wins there are far and few. We never do well at the Ct. casinos so the deciding factor for me to go to Ct. is I have a gambling itch that must be scratched-otherwise I wait for vacation areas that have casinos like Vegas, NOLA, AC, ect.

Darlene I usually end up going #1 if they have the hourly giveaways that are good + if they add mystery freeplay to that #2 out of boredom :bored:. I'm going probably Monday or Tuesday as they are doing the St Pattys giveaways and mystery freeplay + I have a nice bounce back :bounce: freeplay to add to the mystery freeplay.

Good Luck if you end up driving over this weekend.

My local is over 3 hours away, so it's always at least a 2-3 night stay. My trips are planned, sorry cant add much, other than FP and good weather are the deciding factors. Good luck if you go.

Boredom is my main factor.. and I am about 35 minutes away. Try to head the opposite direction when I head out for the day for shopping - so I can't get PULLED in that direction. I'm conserving my money for Vegas.. and haven't had much luck at the local lately. I'll take my Kohls 30% off coupon and do some bargain shopping.

I go to my local out of boredom and it depends on the promo's. I am thinking of going Sunday for ladies day. I went a few months ago and there are Male models serving free mimosas in the morning (we don't have free drinks in Michigan) and drawings for designer purses filled with cash. It's fun! And I always get some nice freeplay.

Not much help here. Don't do locals and AC is 2 and a half away away. So generally plan my trips and always stay at least one night, but usually at least 2.

Have fun with your niece/nephew today. I have my grandson this morning, so no worries of hitting the casino yet :)

I do think distance would be a blessing. My local about 30 minutes from home and about 10 from work and in line with driving home, can be detrimental to my $$$.

I guess it's a good thing my local is stingy with the FP offersm if they were to send me those amounts I'd definitely go.

It would be easier for me if the casino was further away. I'm trying to save for Coushatta and Vegas this year and when I get bored I convince myself that the local will be in a giving mood and boost my vacation BR. Hasn't happened yet.

Locals here dont give shit so jusr depends on how of an itch i get.

I understand that feeling all too well.

One of these days, maybe we'll both be there at the same time and you can pass some of your winning ways to me :)

I keep trying to plan the getaways, but until I retire, the local is too tempting and there goes the getaway budget.

I'm planning on trying to coax my granddaughter into going shopping later today, shouldn't be too hard :phone:

That sounds like a wonderful promo, the last promo giveaway that I got was a set of 4 pots and you had to go once a week to get a new piece. Needless to say, I could have flown to Vegas a couple of times for what I lost while getting the pots

I need to start pretending I don't have a local.

I have 4 casinos less than 1/2 hour from my house, two of them I frequent, as they give me free play and free food! The other two I ignore. There are times when I go in only to play the free play and eat. When the offers stop, then I stop going!
Hasn't happened yet.

Do some slot hopping- Let's say you put a 20 in and if nothing pays by 5 bucks, get off and go on another.

I try to stay away from the local as much as possible. It's only 20 minutes away, so it's VERY close. I don't lose there every time, but, let's face it. If we are being honest, you will lose over time. Anyone who says they win every time is either fictional or not honest IMO. I'd rather save my money for destination trips, where I get a room, food, and often meet up with friends. I usually lose on those as well, but they are fun at least! I do make trips to the local occasionally, but not nearly as often as I used to.

I wouldn't say it was boredom because there's always a ton of things to do around the house and yard.
I just get an uncontrollable itch to go to casinos sometimes.
Naturally if I have a nice free play offer, it makes my decision much easier lol:)

My DH and I go way to much to the locals. It doesn't seem as much fun anymore. I think I liked it more when you had to plan for a trip. I also love staying different places. Now we just go 20 minutes to half hour away. We also have really not been winning at the locals. We havn't had a HP in over a year an a half.

hey darrell, just curious - were they always there or was there a law passed that had them sprout all at once?

Around 1992 they started allowing Riverboat gambling in Iowa due to some Federal legislation. They initially required the boats to go up & down the river while patrons gambled. A short time later they allowed land based casinos. I know my local HoChunk Wisconsin Dells opened in October 1993. My first time there was July 3rd,1994.

We have a local 20 minutes from the house. Never been there. (Penn National) Consider our local to be Cleveland Horseshoe (80 minute drive). Looks like we may start getting free rooms again at Ritz from them. Lot of competition in last 3 years now in Ohio. If free rooms then go 3 to 4 times per year with 2 or 3 trips to AC. Missed our Vegas trip this year. Hopefully next year. Payouts at Cleveland as good or better than the Strip, just don't have enough of the old games.

Hello Seahawks Fan ! How are you and Mrs. Penguin doing ?

Darrell ---- Still here in AZ. Headed to California late this week for a week. Three nights scheduled for Laughlin Harrahs and then back home near end of April. Been gone long time and missed a crappy winter in Ohio. Sure hope we have a KC M&G next year. This one was a blast. Seahawks trading off some offensive linemen that cannot play full year without injury. Resigned the Beast. However defense still a bit lacking in secondary depth.

I am used to tight casinos, lol. I think of it as a night out. Just don't spend to much to feel ripped off. I have found playing progressives are good in a tight casino, I don't know why, maybe because the payback is always constant, because I do think they change with server based in locals with all new ON line machines. I see progressives hit for people when the typical slots are soaking people as usual. Just a thought.

My trigger is also boredom. Do I stay home, and stare at the television? Most likely I will eat everything in the house, too. Or, do I take a road trip and avoid all the calories?

20 min drive for me. I go whenever I have extra time and extra disposable money.
