BREAKING: A Birmingham man drowned over the weekend in a fountain near the buffett inside the Hollywood Casino in Tunica, MS.
The Tunica County Sheriff's Department says 48-year old Bob Jerome Murray from Birmingham fell into the water last night and they recovered him after getting a call from casino security.

How in the world did he stay in there long enough to drown with nobody seeing him? Just seems strange close to a buffet.

From the report I read online it sounds like when he fell in he had to have hit his head, knocking him out. He fell trying to catch a pack of cigarettes his fiancee had thrown to him. So he wasn't alone, someone knew he fell in.

How deep of water is that? Never been to the place but can't imagine deep

Such a strange/sad story.

I have been to the casino a couple times in the past but never in this part of the hotel area.

I was there & saw the cigs floating where he fell. A paddle boat arrived & they had thrown a life saver in. He hit his head on the wall when he fell likely knocking him out. It was almost 2 hours when they found him. His fiancé saw him fall since she was tossing the cigs to him. He was meeting her family for the first time. Truly sad. May he RIP

fountains inside casinos are not deep and you can see the bottom where people throw pennies in. I assume this casino is the same (I have never been there, but all casinos I have been to are many a couple feet). Sounds like murder to me and the fiance should be the one to blame. If she loved him, she would have walked in and got him out right away or reported to security to get him out. This man does not deserve to die. Also it sounds like this casino does not have many cameras? There should be a private camera room where people are watching anywhere in the casino and near and in food places 24/7. This sounds like a set up.

I did some googling because I pictured the normal fountain that you throw coins in, like camon mentioned, and it didn't sound right. It looks more like a smaller version of the area in front of TI or part of an amusement park ride that has water in it - with lots of stuff in the bottom probably impeding the search.

You got me curious so I did some googling to try to find a pic of the fountain. Not sure if this is still there but I kept coming up with these. Definitely not a fountain that we all would picture in our minds.

Ida, yes, this is what is pictured in the news report I linked to in my post.

Makes more sense now I think.

Sorry Dina, I didn't see any pics in the link so posted those. It's really a terrible accident.

No, no, Ida, just saying that those photos are the same as the area in the tv segment on it! Easier to see pics posted to the forum than watching a video segment but it's what I found first. you did better :)

The casinos in Tunica are built on the river & the water at Hollywood casino where this happened is deep. U walk in with front desk to ur right & buffet & elevators to rooms on left. U walk straight into the actual casino going over a 'bridge' with river water on either side. This is where he fell on the side separating the buffet from the casino trying to catch cigarettes. They even had rescuers in a paddle boat down there when I walked up just minutes of it happening.

Clearly a wading pool with pennies won't require a paddle boat & life savers. Quit being so grim. It's bad enough a man lost his life by accident. Need I remind U. I was there. You were not.

Thank you, that explains it so much better than the news reports! I certainly had no idea from anything that I read previously that is was not a "fountain' as we know it at all.

It really is terribly sad.
