China here I come...

I embark on an annual trip for work to China. I have enjoyed sharing the exploits with my joker friends. Sitting in Vancouver waiting to depart for Beijing and then onto Qingdao.

6 glass plants and 3 cardboard plants to view interesting food to eat and stories to be made.

If I remember correctly Qingdoa has a nice beach plus home of Qingdao beer. Have a good time. Try some sea cucumber. hhh Reminded me of a water born slug.

Arrived safe and sound 16 hrs of travel staying at the Sheraton Qingdao​. Had a great dnner at Korean BBQ

Touring 3 Glass plants tomorrow full day.

Morning walk slept until 530 and decided to stretch the legs. It is 80 degrees already and will be in 90's later today I will be melting in the glass plants later today. Back at Hotel after touring 3 plants 7 hrs of driving and a fantastic seafood feast.

We saw one mediocre plant a good plant and the newest plant in the world that just opened in March. They are now meeting and exceeding the quality and throughput I have seen in North America.

It was a great day off to view 2 plants tomorrow and moving cities to rizhao.

Sleep is a little challenging 18hr time difference is playing games with my body.

Moving cities today on to Rizhao a mid size city of 5 Million. Weather has been great, food spectacular and plants continue to improve quality and capabilities.

Grabbed a coffee and catching up on emails.

Still no facebook or google available to the Chinese but good news is Jokers website not on prohibited list.

Watched Ducks vs.Preds hockey game in Chinese this morning that was different. Now the PGA is on again Chinese commentators.

Happy Mothers Day to all of the amazing mothers on the site.

Fresh Qingdao beer is fantastic they also have domestic beer only available in China that was fantastic

The wifi in rizhao sucks and I can't upload pics. Nice location of hotel right on the water yellow Sea. Off to yinan today I will upload pics when wifi permits. Had a good dinner at glass factories dining room onsite chefs and Bing Bing Qingdao beer. (cold cold) they drink beer room temperature here so they chilled a dozen for us.

Update

3 days down 2 to go.

- food is all fresh nothing frozen or processed at restaurants
-every meal is family style with at least 8-10 dishes
-bijou chinese firewater is awful and traditional toasts with it is still very much part of the dining process
- chinese beer is 3.1% alcohol and very good
-housing prices going crazy in major cities
- lots of construction of apartment complexes


Notes from plants
- average wage of line worker is $500 US a month
- they all have company housing and food provided
-6 day work week for all including mgt
- having problems retaining Young employees that don't want to do dirty work
- more and more automation
- plant cleanliness is now a priority
- quality is improving
- costs inflation rising

Lol, how else are you supposed to know the filets you are being served are from the fish they say it's from?

Wasn't a fan of gigantic 🐌 it was so chewy and flavorless. The Chinese are masters of flavorful spicy sauces. The seafood gas been awesome. I have lots of pictures to share.

As for beer they serve 20 oz beers and have been averaging 5 per dinner and haven't slept better. Lol

It was a good trip some final observations

-same problems as in North America shortage of laborers leading to automation
- Chinese are leveraged credit wise Newhouse/cars
-housing bubble is looming too many apartments not enough people
-air quality is best I have seen stopping coal furnaces
- chinese driving is crazy minor fender benders everywhere cash exchange then move on interesting system
