I totally agree with you! When we got Carlos they mentioned how you could eat off our garage floor. It is a safe and secure place for Helix. I just feel in my heart this is the right fit for both of us. You Jokers are so amazing and supportative!

Home visit ( to make sure I am not a hoarder or a breeder) happened yesterday and I got the A OK today. Looks like he will be neutered on the 3rd and then I can bring him home. I found a dog walker who will stay with him at my house for the 4 day trip I have this months. I was in panic mode for a mi it's this morning when the Foster backed out of watching him. But with help of friends and family I was able to figure it out!

I know this particular rescue does because they rescue from Kill Shelter, they want them to go to Forever homes. They check to see if you are a pet hoarder, keep them outside, or may be reselling them. They neuter or spay every animal before they can be adopted and microchip them.

We may be going to Mystic Lakes over 4th of July weekend...we are staying overnight on Monday the 3rd. Wanna come down and have lunch or dinner with us? It's not 100% yet...we actually have tickets to fly to Michigan that weekend to see DH's Mom but we just found out they might be in Rochester at the Mayo Clinic for appointments so we booked the night at Mystic for a backup plan.

CeCe, be prepared for him to be terrified by the fireworks. Most small dogs are, and every year on the 4th I turn the TV up loud and keep the windows closed to try to cover the sound. Thunderstorms literally have my Yorkie shaking like a leaf.

We took our first Pekingese to a neighborhood 4th of July celebration when he was young. The fireworks freaked him out. Every year after that we had to do like Ida and make sure we had either the TV turned up, or music playing. But he could seem to still hear them.

Thanks Elf I am seeing the vet today to get his Bortadella so he can start training on Sunday so I will ask them. Otherwise my normal mobile vet comes next week to get to know him and I can ask her. I love a vet that comes Timmy house :)

They are just too funny. I have a nice dog bed on the floor next to me, but he has no interest in that. Right now he is right up to my back and I have about 1/3 of the bed. It is like having a toddler again.

Suze1000 he has his moments, and sometimes he is just a shit. He is food and you agre sauce (guards his possessions) so I have been working with him on that. And he has pooped on my shower, but in fairness he did try to get me to go out at 4:30 am and I ignored him :( . I saw we rescued each other.

Having some Helix issues, he bit me last night.. After lunging at me. I have the behavioral therapist coming tomorrow am and the vet coming Thursday PM. This is the 2nd bite, the first one was on my foot when I tied to push him away from another dogs food. Last night was nothing like that.n I do not want to be afraid of my dog, so please keep good thoughts that we can figure this out and with training and vet guidance, we can work through this.

HI Tab, the first was food, which we have been working on, the 2nd was a piece of my clothing he took, and when I went to pick it up and put it in the hamper he lunged. The are all guarding type issues, which leads us to believe he had to fight for toys, food, and basic items of security somewhere before I got him. He is doing much better on toys, and will bring them to me, and let me take them from him. Food is still tough, so I feed him in his kennel, so I can shut the door if he gets aggressive. I got him a puzzle bowl to try and slow down his eating.. but that just frustrates him.

He did not break the skin. I was confrontational and yelled no, which caused him to lash out. She feels the showing him who’s boss approach does not work with him. He gets more defensive. I am leArning to distract him and get him into a kennel to reduce the tension and stress. It will take some work (ok a lot of work) but I am not giving up on him. I just have to be more consistent and prepared.

She also suggested I talk to the vet about anxiety meds. We will see how the vet visit goes tomorrow. Thank you everyone.

Training with Helix today went well. Vet visit was also good. She like the plan of action. Wants to hold off on anxiety meds until we see if any progress. She did give him a low dose of pain pills as it seems he has some neck muscle issues and can't turn his head. We will see if pain may be causing some of the aggression. Now I am going to look for a doggie massage therapist

Oh wow, I never thought of possible pain or other issues. My deaf guy sometimes snaps when he is startled, I am sure because he feels vulnerable. Maybe the vet is on to something with Helix! I so hope you get it all figured out soon. He is a cutie pie.
