View Full Version : Casino ATM fees

I know many of us use the ATM's for different reasons when we are in the casino. For me there are 2 types of withdrawals.

1. The planned one, meaning that I deliberately did not carry all my cash for a trip planning to use the ATM partway through.

2. The Walk of Shame, which needs no explanation :dread:

On my last Vegas trip, the ATM fee at Palazzo was up to $7.99 which really annoyed me, but I did a #1 planned withdrawal, hoping it would get me through the trip. Well, it didn't, so at Planet Hollywood I was forced to take a #2, WOS. Damned if the fee wasn't $9.99! HIGHWAY FREAKING ROBBERY! Since I get $15 in ATM fees a month reimbursed, I sucked it up but it left a bad taste.

Where does it all end, and do you have a point at which the ATM fee is just too high? Short of bringing your whole bankroll with you, how do you get cash in Vegas, or other gambling locations?

I hear ya on the fees. I also get hit with a charge from my bank on top of the casino charge.

A lesson learned the hard way: have a back up card. You need a second source. The last time I stayed at Samstown (Boyd Gaming), they were hacked. My CC company called and my card was one of
hundreds that were stolen from Boyd's system. My card had a fraud attempt on it which the cc stopped. They cancelled it. You could be in trouble if you only depend on one card. It can happen and it doesn't matter if it is your debit or credit. It can cause disruption.

When I've needed to go to the ATM in Vegas (and like you it's for one of the two reasons you mentioned), I walk to casino royale. The fee there is $3. And it forces me to cool down and get some steps!

My BR has gotten larger and I feel very anxious abt traveling with it. But I also move my paychecks quickly out of my checking account so I don't have the history or balances to get a line of credit.

We're lucky that our bank reimburses all ATM fees with no monthly limit (I think we're grandfathered into that deal as I've never heard of anyone else having a similar plan). I have been shocked at some of the fees we've seen on our statements though and are thankful we don't have to pay them.

My checking account reimburses my ATM fees and I also opened a ECheck at Cherokee which actually lets me get money with no fees at the vegas CET properties and also some other casinos Venetian charges though to use it ...

I leave most of my BR in the bank and cash e-checks at Wynn. I only take cash for Cosmo...and I too have taken a few WOS :uncomfortableness: same when I go to Louisiana...cash e-check at L'auberge.

My bank used to reimburse all the charges, which was nice. Now though it's a limit of $10 a month reimbursed of external fees, but they don't charge their own Which meant my last few trips cost me some money in fees.
I don't like to travel with or carry a lot of cash, so when they were all reimbursed I got used to just getting money out when I got there. If they're charging $9.99 though I need to reconsider either my bankroll size or what I do because that's a little stiff. I have the echeck thing but I have always saved that for an emergency or in case my hours playing are goofy and my bankroll days don't line up with ATM days and I'm not even sure what my limit is since all I have ever asked for is $300.
I also always go with more than 1 ATM card. I have a smaller account that I use for emergency purposes only that has a small w/d limit plus the bank charges their own ATM fee.
I usually go to Vegas myself which is why I'm always so emergency conscious. I try to keep money totally separate for random things and not gamble with it at all. But I'm always worried I'm gonna have to rush home or something and need cash when I've already used up my main account daily limit. It really doesn't make sense truly because I have credit cards but all this extra what if availabilities I try to have make me feel better.

So is the charge $7 per transaction regardless of amount withdrawn? I've never made the WOS

You should try it sometimes, making that comeback on WOS money is fun! Or not HHH
Yes the fees are regardless of the amount taken out. My crappy local bank charges another fee on top of the fee. The ATM at Walgreens also has a cheaper fee than the casinos, at least they used to.

Years ago I got a Preferred VIP card with a line of credit. Most casinos that accept it charge little to no fees. I absolutely refuse to pay ATM fees to get my own damn money, lol! If anyone is interested in checking it out, you can at vippreferred.com.

I'm fortunate that Bank of America is my bank and they are located in Las Vegas. Good and bad part is that if the branch is open I can get more than my $500 daily limit

I hate ATM fees... It's a good deterrent but has not stopped me from making that WOS. Sometimes I just have to walk farther :-)

I also think CET network has free check cashing option for Diamond players but I haven't signed up for it. It would likely get me into more trouble.

Yes this was the thing I was talking about that I hardly use that I know I can get at least $300 for since I asked for that once and they gave it to me. I've only used it once or twice in Vegas but I originally signed up for it when the Cleveland casino was TR and I was too lazy to walk over to my bank's ATM nearby. I have never been charged a fee but I've been Seven Stars all the times I used it in Vegas - I was Diamond when I originally signed up for it.

Wells Fargo bank is big in the West. Arizona, Nevada,California all have locations. There are atms in the Vegas and Reno airport. Vegas also has a bank in the airport at the southwest terminal. Used to be an ATM at Carnival court haven't seen it since the remodel.

This topic got me thinking. I bank with one of the big national banks and have several accts with them.

Went in to ask them if they could waive ATM fees out of network and was told one of my accts was available for that, but only twice per month and, only for their bank's ATM fees... meaning the casino ATM fee can't be waived.

FWIW, regional banks and brokerage house accts (e.g. Schwab) do reimburse all ATM fees.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkWith my bank you can call them and have them increase the daily limit. It can be a good thing, or cause things to get very ugly if the WOH does not work out. But the good thing is they always wave any fee.

It's interesting that we all have such different methods of handling our gambling moolah. I hesitate to get involved with any of the Echecks or lines of credit or anything directly through the casino as I really don't want them to have access to my financial info. It just makes me uncomfortable, not to mention that DH is quite opposed to gambling, so I don't want any of that stuff showing up anywhere he would see it :shame:

I had one ATM card for years, but one stupid pathetic dumbass time I left the ATM in my car in NH on one of my longer trips (San Fran, Reno, Vegas & San Antonio) were I had planned to stock up on money along the way. Thank God I use a Federal Credit Union, and was able to get to a FCU in Reno where with my ID and account number, I got a fistful of dollars. Since then, I added a Visa from the CU that has direct access to my checking so I can get $ on that if I lose my ATM card or it malfunctions. That one stays in the safe with my passport (I am getting the passport card when I renew this month) & $100 in case I ever lose my purse. That way I have ID, a wee bit of cash, a CC and access to more cash to get my ass home without a big hassle.

They offered to raise my limit one time when I went to withdraw money I told them no. I have to limit myself when I'm in degenerate disaster mode.

I have a friend who does that. I hate paying ATM fees so I usually take out my daily limit even if I don't "plan" to use it all just to avoid multiple fees

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI do the same thing. My daily limit on my card is typically the same as my daily BR size. Which is why I don't bring much BR with me. If I can't get to it I can't go degen and get it and lose it.
