Just got off the phone with daughter. She is leaving tomorrow, driving alone with 1 year old baby to Nags Head to spend a couple days with dirt bag boyfriends parents. He can't take time off work because he has used it all up on music festivals.

So, being I will be crazy knowing she is on the road for 8 hours plus with baby, I probably am going to drive her. Will stay in a hotel, read the new Ken Follett novel I bought at the airport and eat nice dinners.

But, if there were a casino nearby that anyone knows of, I would be up for that too!!

I can not even believe they expect her to do this and she, for some reason jumps through hoops for them, will do it. Being her vehicles are not the best, they are offering their car. Still, traveling alone with babies is not easy!

Casinos?

We sometimes just shake our heads at how some of our kids and/or grandkids and how they handle their relations with their significant others. Not much you can do except do the right thing (drive her to Nags Heads) and just grin and bear it.

I was even looking at flying her there, except there is not an airport close to make it work. I will grin and bear it, make a road trip memory with baby and daughter. She said I could stay at the house they rented, but no way!! Want my space and my bourbon. They don't drink, cuss, smoke, gamble, etc... so a hotel it is for me!

Glad you understand.

By the way, I really like Seneca casino when I went once. Took my Mom back home to see her sister in Dubois and took a long day trip there. Did well and had a good time. Beautiful area.

I would do the exact same thing! Enjoy your hotel time. I hope you find a casino close enough for a distraction!

Your closest casino would be MGM National Harrbor. Around 280 miles. You are a good mother.

Yeah, that won't work, lol. (MGM) If it was just my daughter, I would say "Have a good time" but, my little baby Althea, just can't do it...

Well, at least my Cherokee BR will still be in tact!

Got back late last night. What a haul that is getting there. Of course, my daughter thought she could have done it by herself and didn't appreciate it. 4 tanks of gas, her able to hop in the back seat for baby when needed, all meals paid for. We were at each other's throat when we finally got there Monday night. If you don't know where you are going, it was tough!

I settled into a Inn and relaxed, read some of Ken Follett's new novel, watched Mad Men, went out for lunches and dinners, enjoyed my view of the sound. Her and I did do lunch on Wed. and took baby to the beach. Our ride home was better knowing it was going to be a haul. Just a bit peeved that she acted the way she did. She did not have to take me up on the offer. (Though I would have been a basket case worrying) The whole trip with gas, room, dinners, etc. put me out about 900.00. Going to try and step back and not offer my help as much as I do. It's not the money as much as the attitude.

The islands were nice but the only way I would ever do it again is when DH retires and we have 2 weeks to rent a house on the ocean. I had no idea it is so hard to get too and from one end of the barrier islands to the other (north to south) is 4 hours. I felt like we arrived when we went over the last bridge only to drive another hour and a half in the dark looking for a place we had no idea where it was! Oh well, it's done.
