NYE in Vegas for Dummies...

Finally going to Vegas for NYE!! It will be my first time ever and want to make the best of it. I have no offers for shows or dinners just a comp room. Staying at PH 12/30-1/1 after checking out we will take a side trip to Hoover Dam then move on the Harrah's for one night. When I check in should I ask the host on duty if there are any freebies I could have? What are the do's and don'ts? Any suggestions or advice will be greatly appreciated. :)

I would not attempt to go out to Hoover dam the 31st and then try to get back on the strip as they usually shut it down. I would go on the 30th and ya should be ok

I have a question for those familiar with NYE. We are seeing Bruno on the 31st. I assume the show will end about 10pm. Will we be able to walk through casinos from Monte Carlo to Mandalay? When do they start only letting people with room keys into casinos? Should we plan on taking a cab instead?

Elf I’ve only been once for NYE so I’m no expert. You might want to post your question on Vegas Fanatics as there seem to be quite a few experienced NYE posters.

What I’ve been told is, they shut down entry into casinos to those without room keys at some point. I would think there will be provisions in place for concert goers to get back to there hotels. Maybe your host can advise?

I would think I a cab might be a real bitch but hard to tell as they might be able to take Dean Martin down toward Mandalay from the park area.


Was able to move between aria and Cosmo no problem on the bAck entrances 2 years ago.

They close the strip around 6:00, so you wouldn't be able to cab it, I would walk over to Excalibur and then take that tram to Mandalay Bay. We have done NYE a lot in Vegas and have never been asked for a room key to get in a hotel, I suspect those that do check it would be very close to midnight. I'm definitely up for a meet on the 30th!

Might be a whole different ball game this year with being able to walk between hotels and security this year compared to the past.
