View Full Version : Do you convert????

This has been rattling around in my head lately; does anyone else look at something they are contemplating buying and think "hey, that's "X" many spins on (insert favorite slot machine here)? Just wondering . . .

Since my nightmare trip in February - has it only been 6 weeks ???? - I still think about my rental car being "stolen" and get the shivers. I have managed to stay away from slots except watching the videos posted on YouTube and my balance sheet is looking a bit more comfortable. Well, comfortable enough until April 15th when I have to write the government a big ass check and then turn around and write the state an even bigger one. Crap.

So far my self imposed hiatus from slots is going OK, but every once in a while I get twitchy and think, "hey, I can make it to Oregon and play for a bit" - I then look up the movie schedule and catch a matinee to fill up the afternoon or drive to the lake and take the dog for a walk. Anything to fill up a couple hours in the afternoon so I don't have the time to cheat on my resolve.

Thank you Jokers, for letting me vent and not having to worry about being judged. That, and me writing wackadoodle crap on this forum to get stuff out of my head!!!

Vent away, no judgment, it’s what I like about JWE. Sometimes being an adult sucks, sorry you had a bad Feb., I definitely believe we have all been there and sometimes a break is needed. Enjoy the movies and walks with the dog, and good luck once you slot again.

The opposite in my case. Every time I lose I think shit, with the money I lost I I could have bought that new chair, new washer, new TV, etc.

No but I don't want anything and very rarely do I buy anything in the 30 years we have been married I bet I haven't written 10 checks. hhh

The best thing about a hiatus is remembering other things you enjoy! At the rate this year is going, I may have to take a long one in the fall. I do find it difficult to read trip reports and I am a big baby when I have to skip M&G's so I find myself withdrawing from the forum a bit at those times. And slot videos are almost always a NO NO for me. It is hardest for me in winter, because there is less to do here in snow country now that I am too old & fat to cross country ski HHH. Mostly, I plan trips and yes, they almost all involve a casino.

As far as 'converting' goes, I do the opposite of you. After a losing trip I think about all the tangible things I could have done with the $$ I lost. Like, "Damn, I should have just stayed home and bought a new washing machine." Or "Sonofabitch, why didn't I just go furniture shopping instead of the casino?" Unfortunately, when I (occasionally) win, instead of using my winnings for those things, I just tuck it away for the next casino trip. As Nancy Kerrigan so eloquently says "WHY???"

I just got my first property tax statement, that I am solely responsible for now. It was higher than expected, but I have been putting funds in the credit union each check so I will be ok. Just don’t like adulting some days. I am going to Philly for work, and then fun in AC. So I am being very cautious about spending on gambling. Grown men and dating make me want to run away to the casino and push buttons. But I too have found other things.

No judgement from anyone here.. we are a support system for everything!

But, with camping you guys pretty much take a hiatus from spring to fall! It's a nice healthy way to balance life :)

I try not to think about the losses .it would just piss me off hhh. when we go to play the $$$ we take has all ready been set a side for it . we try to schedule no more than 4 Casino visits a year with a max stay 4 days . for me that works out to being a substantial net loss for the year . But i enjoy playing the slots . look at it this way you could be paying this $$$ out to a shrink instead ya can play the slots and hang out with us de-gens . sounds like a win win to me ( pun intended ) ha!

I try to find some kind of balance. For example I might make a major purchase or do something tangible with my money before my casino trips. Helps me feel like I have a mix between losing money for my slot therapy and having something to show for my money. I enjoy gambling so I don't see myself quitting anytime soon but I also try to stay responsible (make sure my bills are paid on time). And I only play with what I can afford to lose even those times I go over budget.

Boy can I relate to this...we're building a new garage this year and the gambling out of town money goes to the garage fund each paycheck. Can't wait till it's done and paid for...

Well, I figured my "slot restriction" had lasted long enough and I took a trip to Ontario - I should have just stayed on restriction. I took $300 with me and the biggest "win" I had was $13. Needless to say, that money didn't last long. DH and I decided the house needs painting (I hated the original color; somewhere between manila vanilla and pink with verigated brick underneath); we chose slate grey with a barn red trim. After pricing out painting companies, we chose one that works with my son's company (roofing), and has a good reputation. One day later, I have a beautiful new exterior. Now on to the landscaping. We had cedar red mulch (to offset the manila vanilla) in the gardens and up the driveway, so I ripped all that out, took out the old, dying, woody, and overgrown plants/shrubs in said gardens and have it stripped down to the dirt; it filled a tow trailer for a dump run. Now to put down new weed barrier and get the black lava rock delivered; this will cost almost as much as the paint job!! No more slot fun for me till this is paid for and I pump up our savings a bit; Christmas is coming and I got grandbabies to buy for !!! Every time I come home I say "it's worth it"!! I can be happy with this "conversion".

It stings when we have to do these projects, but in the long run they are so worth it. The money that you put in to your house and yard gives you many years of enjoyment.when you pull up in the car, where putting it in to slots gives you maybe a few days.

And I am sure the looks on those grandbabies faces at Christmas is priceless!

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk Yup, I have 2 lavender bushes and the box elder bushes and a couple of salvia plants after digging everything else out; I will be replacing with above ground huge ginger planters in dark red trimmed in black to match the lava rock; I figure it will take about 6-8 of them (these are the size of a large end table and I will probably have to take out a second mortgage to pay for them) and I plan on doing iris', exotic grasses and johnny jump-ups in a few of them just to have some color in front (everything will be perennials). Oddly enough, I am finding that I didn't even get the "twitches" from being gone from slotting for so long and then going back to play (for that short time it allowed me). I came back home pretty bummed and decided OK, I need more time off. I will get my fix from lurking here and watching others win.
