I'm curious if anyone has hit a jackpot on a cruise and if so, did they issue a tax form?
Going on a short 3 day cruise to Bahamas. This is not really a gambling trip but of course some gambling might happen.
What about jackpot in Bahamas? Same question

As far as on the ship, yes a tax form was issued when I hit my last jackpot on NCL. I have never hit one on an island, but I imagine every country is different.

They gave me W-2's just like land based casinos.. Since we ported from Miami that's were they were drawn up.. Had over 34 K in W-2's..:)

That must be something new they are doing as I hit a jackpot on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas in 2013 and they didn't take down my SS or issue a W-2.

Diana, did you have to file the win on your taxes? I have wondered that about cruise HP's.

The IRS requires us to report our winnings at tax time even if a W-2 isn't issued. It wasn't a problem for us in 2013 because we had enough losses to more then cover our wins. I'm sure that there are people who don't report all their winnings if they don't get W-2's issued. :)

Thanks. I wondered since the ships are registered in foreign countries.

It was a few years ago, but I did not get W-2's on jackpots on Royal Caribbean either. When I was on Celebrity I did not see anyone come even close to a hand pay, but they are owned by Royal Caribbean, so may follow the same procedure. I got W-2 on NCL, and my sister did on Carnival.
As Evoni said, we are responsible to report all of our wins, whether we are issued W-2's or not. That includes wins that are below the threshold for a W-2, and I am sure we all follow through on that!
