View Full Version : 17 Day Diet

I have done this diet before and it did work for me. I’m going to try it again but already struggling with it mentally and it’s just day 1!

I bought the book many years ago but I found a blog about it too.

What I liked about this diet is that it was pretty easy to follow and no special or weird foods. I just found some things that I liked and stuck with them. I also like that it is 17 days and then it changes up.

I know a lot of you are doing keto but thought I would share this in case you wanted to check it out. Wish me luck!

Looks interesting. I did experience the headaches and what they call the keto flu at first when I got rid of sugars and carbs early on. Good luck with it (although you look perfectly fine to me as you are)!

Thanks I know I don’t have a lot to lose but still hoping this can kick start me in the right direction. I remember the first time I did it the first 3 days were the hardest but once I got through it it wasn’t bad. I also remember how good I felt. The nice thing is there are 4 different cycles so you aren’t that limited and part of this approach of changes every 17 days helps with the plateau. I will be lucky to make it through the first 17 lol

Thanks Dina, it’s really not too bad. I will probably end up mostly eating grilled chicken breasts and change up the veggies. It’s boring but it’s also only 17 days.
Part of challenge is the psychological part. My boyfriend is doing it with me so hopefully he will help to keep me focused too.

This sounds like a really healthy program, and should work well for someone like yourself, GG, that doesn't have much to lose! I actually think it has a pretty good variety of foods even for Cycle 1, but definitely in 2 & 3. Just be careful because they seemed pretty adamant about keeping exercise to 17 minutes in Cycle 1. That may be because of the withdrawal symptoms you may experience.

I am looking forward to seeing how your experience goes, although you can count me in the group that thinks you look fabulous just the way you are!

Thanks NHcris! Jokers are the best. I really appreciate the support. I was doing 45 minutes on the elliptical before the diet so I figured I would stick with it. But funny the first time I did this my friend lost more weight than I did and she didn’t exercise at all. She was a little bigger and taller than me though.

I’m enjoying following along. I started my diet yesterday and am off to the gym this morning. I’m documenting my food in My Fitness Pal. I’m visiting family in Chicago this weekend so will probably eat out several nights. That always seems to trip me up a bit. I’ll stick to salads wherever we eat. Luckily I’ll have access to a treadmill so I can at least keep the exercise on track. My goal is to look and feel much better by NYE. Keep up the good work GG!

Yes I like the baby steps. A few years ago I gave up sweetener in my coffee and tea, last year I gave up cream in my coffee. The other day I said to Bill "if someone had told me years ago I would be drinking black coffee I would have laughed". Right now my favorite is iced black coffee. When I get it at Dunkin Donuts I always get asked twice "black?" and if I get it at McDonalds they have been known to put the liquid sweetener in (even though the register person puts it in the computer correctly). Baby steps

I just saw this - keep going! You can get through the 17 days! I myself have been working on my weight since early May. My goal is to lose 1 pound a week, till I get to my target. It is tough, but I have found a few things that are working for me. I gave up milk completely and switched to unsweetened almond milk. Cut way back on the sugar in just that one thing and now I don't even miss my milk! It is interesting to see whet you are eating, so keep logging it!

I just put a cup of water in the microwave and squeeze a lemon or use bottled lemon juice. You are supposed to drink it within first 30 minutes of wake up to start your digestive juices flowing. Also found this article about other benefits

Only 1 cup of green tea today since I only ate one meal.

I didn't realize lemons had that many benefits! I think I will pick up a bag this week and give it a try. Not sure if I can start my day with something other than coffee, but I will give it a go. Thanks!

You can still have coffee just do the lemon water first. I will continue this after I’m done with my 17 days

Just put the cake in the refrigerator. It will keep for two days. But just hide it from your BF. [emoji16]

"They" say that the first three bites of food are the ones that count. Good for you for savoring those two bites, I think that helps you not feel deprived, and it's not going to undo all the progress you've made so far.

Thanks serenasea! The little things keep me going. I know it’s almost over but it was a nice treat to push me through

My 17 days is over finally - yay! I feel really good.

I lost a total of 8 pounds, I think I could have lost 10 if I stayed more strict with the plan but I am happy with the results. I still have a few more pounds I would like to lose but not ready to start the next cycle.

Although the diet is over there are some things I will continue like drinking the hot lemon water and drinking green tea (probably not 3 a day but maybe 2) I will also still eat yogurt or probiotic again maybe not twice a day but at least once. I’m also not planning to lose my mind and just eat all bad but I will try to eat mostly good when I can but still treat myself to the things I enjoy. I will also still continue with my elliptical which I was doing before my diet.

I like this diet because it was easy for me to follow and because I have seen results. There were some times when I would feel crazy hungry but since you can eat unlimited lean protein and veggies there was no reason I couldn’t eat.

My boyfriend did great and really helped me stay focused and he got some benefits too. I have to check to see how much total weight he lost but it was more than me.

I really appreciate all of the support from the jokers too - you are the best!

I’m cooking a pot roast for dinner - been so long since I had beef I hope it doesn’t upset my stomach. I might even eat it with mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes but we will see.

Thanks again for following along and cheering me on!

Thanks Nhcris! You started the trend with giving the jokers some healthy activities to follow. What other place can you get gambling, health and emotional support from? Only the jokers

Congrats on the 8 pounds and for making it all 17 days. That’s quite an accomplishment. I’m only in week 2 of my quest for health and I’m having trouble staying motivated. [emoji51]

Thanks Elf, it was hard. I wanted to quit a lot of times. My boyfriend wouldn’t let me and I know the jokers wouldn’t either.

You just have to take baby steps and make the changes that you can. I know the other thing that kept me going is that I was seeing results and could tell a difference in how I feel. Just keep trying you can do it!

Thanks for bringing us along with you -- a different kind of journey than a trip report, for sure. Seeing your daily food plan and now hearing the results is very motivating. Congratulations, and enjoy that pot roast.

Thanks serenasea! Yes definitely a different kind of trip. I’m glad I was able to share it. I know a lot of people are doing Keto but I thought it might help to share another option too in case anyone is interested or looking for something to try. I also recommend the book because it’s nice to understand the why and the science behind it too.
