So my immersion blender shit the bed. The top broke off and one piece is not there, so Frank can't even attempt to fix it. Truthfully, I only used it to make whipped cream a few times, and soup twice. I am contemplating getting a stand mixer instead, but no way am I willing to spend $400 for the nice Kitchen Aid ones. Does anyone have one that didn't cost a fortune, that they like?

Nhcris, I have a KA mixer that I loved but don’t use anymore as I rarely need it.
I’m actually looking to purchase one of those old fashioned electric mixers, this one is $35 at Target.

What I like is that they can stow away, unlike stand mixers that take up gobs of counter space.

On the other hand, stand alone mixers like KA are so versatile, almost every kind of attachment is available for processing different things.

Good luck and looking forward to hearing what you get.

Did you get the red mixer? I never bought one cause I know it wouldn’t get much use. I used a Procter silex hand mixer for over 50 years and had to replace it a year ago. I got a kitchen aid hand mixer at kohl’s it was $30 something with the sale price and coupons. No red got an aqua one

I have a KA stand that is about 43 years old and a KA hand mixer about 10 years old. Love them both but don't use the stand like I did in the past. My hand mixer is like the one posted above. Also have an emersion that I use for small amounts of guacamole!

Add me to the KA stand mixer crew! We have a bunch of the attachments too. I used to use it more frequently and plan to focus on using it more this winter (haven’t made biscotti or sausage in years!)
Costco typically has deals on the KA mixer before the holidays so you might be able to snag it for cheaper!

Wanted to add to my earlier comment. JMO but if you want a stand alone mixer consider the KA. My experience is this line is top notch and I doubt others will give you the purchase power this line gives.

For fun I googled stand alone mixers... this came up fwiw. Personally if you want a stand alone look for a KA model that will suit your needs :)

We have a Sunbeam. Probably 15 years old. Second one in 30+ years. Don't know how well they are made now.

We have the same one Clemi showed and used to have an even older one that was my moms..A lovely Green color, much more square than the newer one. May still be in the back of a cabinet somewhere, that one had a stand it would clip on. For the cost of a cheap Immersion Blender I would get a new one of those too, those are nice for quick stuff and are easy to clean

What part of you really believes you need one more gadget on your counter, hhh. I find the older I get, the less I need to mix.....unless it involves alcohol[emoji483]

My SA KA is now only used 2 or 3 times a year is stored in my kitchen island, bottom shelf. I figure if it ever gets to the point that I can't lift it out and onto the counter I will get rid of it. I still like having it. I never invested in the attachments. Oh and it's avocado green so I have to hide it. But 43 years ago it was an in color!

We have both a KA stand mixer and a cuisinart hand mixer. The KA gets used 1x a year to make Christmas cookies. The hand mixer gets used weekly.

The stand mixer to me is like the food processor I have. I love it but it’s a PIA to get out and to clean up afterward so they rarely get used.

I do have an old Hamilton Beach hand mixer that does the job. I guess I am a messy cook, because I tend to splatter especially making whipped cream. Maybe I need to use a deeper bowl and to pay attention haha! I will be using that until I make a decision.

See, that is what I am afraid of! Especially since the Kitchen Aid is so expensive!

Sounds like Kitchen Aid is the way to go if I decide to get one. It is so hard to justify the cost, but maybe I will ask Santa....

You are so right Charlie! I am so sick of stuff breaking as soon as it's off warranty. You mean, like, actually go into Walmart???? I think I would rather mix everything with an egg beater!! Just kidding, although I almost never go into Walmart unless I am traveling. Hell, I hate shopping so much that I very rarely go to a brick and mortar store theses days unless it is a locally owned specialty place or I am entertaining and have to do it.

I am not surprised you have one! You are actually more of a chef than a home cook! I am going to continue my research and may ask Santa Frank for one. I will definitely check out Costco. Other than car rental deals, I sometimes wonder why I even have a membership, so that would help justify it :wink-new:.

I actually have a Kohl's a couple miles from me. Maybe I will wander in there and check it out. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for that link. It was a good read and definitely food for thought!

I think the newer ones aren't so sturdy. Reviews are mediocre at best. Hopefully yours will last a long time!

Yeah, I have decided to replace the immersion blender for now. I really don't want to spend $300+ for another appliance to shove into the back of my cabinet. It's already crowded there haha!

AT first I was going to call you a brat, but on further reflection, I think you are a wise woman! Although I definitely cook more than you (who doesn't? HHH) I probably wouldn't use regularly. Maybe we need one of those fancy margarita machines! Oh wait, Tequila.......

Wow, you do a lot of really good cooking, so I am surprised you don't use yours more often. That is definitely a sign. If you don't need it, then I don't need it!

Thanks to all of you for your input! Just another reason that I love my Joker family so much. You guys know a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff!!

Nhcris if you decide to get a KA stand alone, wait until Christmas. They are always on sale at Bed Bath and Beyond and then you add the 20% coupon and can get it at a decent price. Also they have different levels of KA SA, you don't need the top model. I'm pretty sure you can get one for just over $200

I decided to order the KA immersion blender this morning. Well it just showed up in my doorstep! That was way easier than going shopping for it.

Thanks Dawn, I will definitely keep that in mind if I decide to get one. I’ll play with my new little toy for a couple months and see how that goes.

Good deal! I have a Cuisinart one! I should be a better cook, I have all the equipment! But actually if I remember right the Cuisinart immersion blender was something I got years ago at a CET points giveaway at Joliet!

Yeah, the fancy French Version apparently :) There was a $25 coupon on Amazon, so I splurged a little.

Ooh, it better not melt! One thing I liked about it is that it has guards to go over the blade thingy when blending soup so it won't scratch the heck out of the pan like my other one did.

It looks a lot like my Cuisinart, and I do love mine. I use it a lot in hot liquid so it should be ok.
