Well, now that my Tim is leaving San Francisco for San Diego this weekend, I am thinking I should check out one of the casinos in the area. I know there is always Harrah's Rincon, but that's an hour outside of the city and I would prefer to be closer since they will be living downtown. It would be great to find a place where I could score discounted or comped rooms after giving them some play, or even better if they would recognize status from somewhere else. But mainly, a place that would be fun and comfortable.

So, tell me all I need to know about the casinos in the area! Of course, this is presuming that someday I will be traveling again....

Well I like Harrahs rincon and Pechanga they’re both very close to each other in the San Diego area Pechanga’s very nice very large and beautiful and of course Harrahs rincon is a CET property and it’s very easy to get her an extremely beautiful sweet there with the patio stayed there many of times

I really like Barona, but there’s no cocktails allowed on the casino floor. They do serve it in their restaurants. I always snuck some on the casino floor. Some of the first floor rooms have a nice patio.

I can’t say much about Vieja’s or Sycuan because I have never gone to both, but it looks like they’re not too far from downtown. I’m assuming about a 30 or 45 minute drive.

Harrah’s has a nice pool and you’ll never get lost in their casino.

To get to some of the SD casinos you have to drive through some winding roads.

Barona has always been my favorite there. It's closer to downtown than Harrah's, although the road up the mountain is pretty crazy. But I do well there gambling wise and they do seem to have looser slots. Rooms are nice, and they are good about comps- I'll play slots for a couple of hours and can go ask for a free buffet or some food money and they'll give that out no problem. I get room offers even if I don't go back for a year or more.

also do a tier match including Caesars, but I haven't done it yet. https://www.barona.com/tier-matching/

I have also been to Viejas, nice property and it's along the interstate so easier to get to but couldn't win a thing there.

From what I understand Sycuan and Jamul casinos are the closest to downtown, but haven't been to either myself. I have been to Valley View, but it's up by Harrah's so not exactly close and always really busy.

So excited for you Nhcris! When my son lived in San Diego (Gaslamp) we drove to Viejas, it was close by. Don’t recall if they had a hotel.

Barona is my favorite. They matched my status to CET and their comps are generous. That’s where I got that handpay on WW3 after a work meeting that one time.

I think it’s an easy drive, I don’t find the road scary, it’s not high or anything. It’s worse from Pechanga to Rincon. They opened back up smoke free for COVID so that’s a plus for you!

So happy you will visit the city I grew up in. Of course when I was there, there wasn't a Gaslight section and no casinos. I did meet Bill there while I volunteered at the USO in downtown. Loved all those men in uniforms. It's a beautiful city and I know you will enjoy yourself when you visit.
