We are 15 days from our departure day! Headed to Wynn July 24-28. We have a huge group going this year, but none are people we will be expected to host, so I think it will be lots of fun. The only plans on my itinerary is:
• Palm A.Y.C.E. lobster buffet
• Sinatra
• Awakening show
• Casa Playa
• Fountainbleu
• Durango
• Invited by friend to join them in their cabana (not our thing, but it’s possible)

As always, I’ll post a full trip report after the trip and try to check in if I have something of interest to post.

Have a great trip and looking forward to your report! Sharon and I haven't stayed at the Wynn/Encore since 2013 and Sinatra's was our favorite restaurant there!

Have a wonderful trip! Lots of the old style pinball and top dollars have been removed but a few banks are still there. I always think of you when I see them. I hope you’re well and that you hit lots of big wins! Sorry I’ll miss you this year.

Sorry for the silence. It’s been a weird trip. Not bad, just a little “off.” We are holding our own gambling-wise. Down a little, but it’s been a struggle. My favorite $5 Double Top Dollar has hurt my feelings, but I’m no quitter. I did take a $1500 handpay from it last night. This morning I was playing video poker at B Bar, as I do each morning. Played a 5 play Deuces Wild game and on the second spin, was dealt 3 Deuces. One game had a Royal with Deuces and one game got the four deuces! Was playing quarters, so won over $300. I was shocked and didn’t take a photo, but it was awesome!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240726/0ccab29582ec8a6d05221c8ae4a72ee7.jpg

It’s been a really rough two years. I’ve struggled with health issues, while trying to keep my business going and have felt like I’ve had the weight of the world on my shoulders. My poor husband has been a rock, it’s all weighed on us heavily. At this point, I’m healthy, but the treatment is ongoing and just seems to continually hover over us.

I say that to explain our mindset on planning our Vegas trip. We were hoping to use the trip as a reset and leave our issues at home, but that’s really hard to do. In addition, we’ve had three successful trips in a row, so both of us had this feeling of “dread” or apprehension about what to expect.

We just weren’t in our “whoo hoo Vegas” mindset, so the whole trip has just felt “off.” I’m in the room right now writing my trip report, still trying to find the words to describe how the trip has gone.
Bottom line, we’re down about a third of our bank roll, have had some great fun with our Vegas friends, had a dress up night to see Awakening, and enjoyed some wonderful dinners.

Here’s the daily recap:

Wednesday, July 24

We arrived at 12:10 p.m. and our driver was waiting. We flew in with our friends, who had checked baggage, so after a brief delay, we were in the SUV and on our way to Wynn.
Our other friends were already here and were waiting for us in the VIP room.

We all visited briefly and hit the floor quickly. We found our machines were not cooperating at all and it only cemented our hesitation about expectations for the trip.

We had reservations for the lobster buffet at Palms at 5:30, so we made our way over there. It was on my husband’s list of things to do and he really enjoyed the experience. I don’t eat lobster, so it was a little lost on me, but I thought it was very nice and worth the trip.

We returned to Wynn and met up with our friends and gambled some more. I know I’ve mentioned our ticket system we stole from Dvandentop, so we saved every ticket over $400. We were able to put three or four tickets in our stash and ended the day down a little bit.

We gambled less, due to the lack of winning. I mean the dead spins were so many that it just wasn’t that much fun. There were handpays everywhere, so it wasn’t the casino, it was just us and the funk that we have surrounding us, I think.

We went to bed early.

Thursday, July 25

When I’m in Vegas, once my eyes are open, I have to be down in the excitement, so I’m on the floor early … like 5-6 a.m. This day was no different.

As I’ve mentioned before, I have a favoriate $5 denom Double Top Dollar machine that I can’t stay away from. It has not been happy to see me this trip and continues to stick its tongue out at me each time I sit down.

We wanted to visit Durango, so that my husband could get a chip for his collection and our friends had a car, so we ventured out mid-morning. I thought it was a very nice casino and they did a great job on it. Would I trade Wynn for it … NO, but it was a nice surprise. We had lunch there and returned.

We gambled some more with the same results.

On this night, we had a special dinner planned at Sinatra, which is now a staple stop on all of our trips. We love this place. My husband had Oso Bucco and I had a ceasar salad and lots of bread, as well as probably a couple of the best margaritas I’ve ever had.

Afterward, we hit our favorite bank of multi-denom Top Dollar machines in Encore. The gambling wasn’t great, but not a disaster. When we were done there, my husband was ready for bed and gave me some money to play on.

Of course, I went back to my $5 machine and it was in a much better mood. I played on $100 for quite some time, hitting multiple bonuses and eventually ending with a $1,500 handpay, plus a $500 ticket to give my husband to take home with us.

These wins evened us up on the trip.

I went to bed shortly after and was up early the next day.

Friday, July 26, 2024

We have a very high roller friend that we come with often and his morning routine is to sit at B Bar and have coffee while playing video poker. This has become my routine as well.

So, I meet him down there and we wait for his wife to come down. He’s had amazing two days, racking up handpays from $20,000 to $6,000 … multiple handpays.
But, his luck is not holding up this morning on the video poker machines.

I sit down and try to figure out the new machines. It was set on a 5 Play setting and I didn’t know how to change it, so played on quarters at $7 per spin and I only inserted a $20.

On my first spin, I got a four or five of a kind (I don’t remember) and on my second spin, I was delt three deuces. So, on 5 play, you get to keep what you held on all five games and get a new draw on each. I ended up with a royal flush with deuces and four deuces and won over $300. It was pretty exciting.

Gambling on slots was more of the same and we actually came up and took a nap on this day.

We had reservations to Awakening and reservations at Casa Play on this night.

I really and highly recommend this show. The set design and talent is amazing. We were four rows from the stage and it was incredibly cool.

Dinner was excellent as usual at Casa Playa. We were dining with our friends and a great time was had by all. We hit the multi-denom Top Dollars in Encore and took up all the seats. My husband hit a $1,600 handpay on $5 denom. I hit $600 on $5. Not much else happened and we were off to bed.

So, as you can see, we are hitting a few big hits, but trying to survive hours of dead spins. This has resulted in a significant decrease in our points, which is disappointing and I hope does not affect our comps, as I truly love this place!

Saturday, July 27, 2024

It’s 8:09 a.m. on our last day. I’m in the room and we will begin our day. Our plans include church and some time at the pool with our friends, who have a cabana.
I have $1,500 in free play and we will see how this trip ends.

At 11 p.m., I’m back in the room and am exhausted and in disbelief on how we ended the trip … in a good way.
Spoiler alert … no one actually made it to the pool.

Started the day at B Bar and was very conservative on what we wanted gamble in the morning. It was all a whirlwind after that.

After a lunch at Charlie’s we met up with our friends. I played by DTD machine and my friend played next to me.

Here’s something to remember. At this point, I have 7,000ish points on my card for the past four days of gambling. That’s not great and about half of what I usually end the trip with and I’m on my last day.

So, I played my $5 DTD for a while and was up and down and finally tapped out. My friend suggested we partner for $100 each on my machine.

It went nuts and at its highest, we had close to $1,000, but cashed out with $500, which I suggested we take to a $10 regular Top Dollar machine. We get a few bonuses and a couple of small line hits and then it starts sucking up our cash. So, I suggested we move to the same machine next to us. We get up and down and eventually get a $1,500 handpay.

My next plan was to hit the high limit room, but have to get to church and we halt our partnership.

After I return, I want to play the $25 Double Top Dollar machine in high limit. I can’t remember how much we have on the ticket at this point since the handpay was in cash, but it’s enough. In short order, we get a bonus and a $1,600 handpay, with $1,000 left on the ticket.

My friend is the high roller, so he just wanted to play and was bored with our partnership efforts, because after he got his cash, he started playing a $25 Pinball machine and hit a $3,700 handpay. He told me to do whatever I wanted with the $1,000. I played and played and played and eventually lost it all … all the while, racking up points.

Now, I have $1,500 in free credit to play and have decided I was going to split the amount with my $5 DTD and the $10 regular Top Dollar machines. I start off on the $10 machine and cash out with $1,800. Next, I went to the $5 machine and cashed out with $980. So, we turned $1,500 in free credit into $2,800. My husband turns his $175 in free credit to $980 on a $10 Pinball machine.
We gambled a bit more and added some tickets to our stash.

At one point, we were down over $8,000 on the trip, but by the time finished, we were only down $4,000. AND, my points at this point are over 14,000. So, we gambled as much today as we have the entire four days prior combined.

I was in my Vegas daze and failed to take photos. I have a few, sorry about that.

Sunday, July 28

Our car was arriving at 7 a.m. to get us to the airport in time for our 8:55 a.m. flight. I woke up in time to be on the floor by 6 a.m. and let my favorite machine take all but $5 of my money. I took my $5 ticket and converted by final points that $19 into Point Play on a Dollar Link game. I had converted $126 during the whirlwind Saturday afternoon play, so we earned nearly 2,000 points just on Saturday night. Anyway, I played 50 cents a pull and turned by $5 ticket into $70 and took it to my $5 DTD and lost it and promptly met our driver and headed to the airport.

We made it to our house at 3 p.m. I fell asleep and didn’t wake up until Monday morning in time for my Physical Therapy appointment at 8 a.m.

Our first-of-the-trip-funk really worried me that I would have lost my love for Vegas and Wynn, but NOPE. We’re sitting in our living room now watching slot videos, recalling our wonderful dining experiences and planning our next trip. Haha.

Side note: This morning, we noticed the Top Dollar Progressive for over $130,000 on the bank of eight machines was hit the night before. Later in the evening, we met the man who won it. He was very gracious and just as stunned as any of us would have been. Later in the evening, we see him waiting on a handpay …. He hit the same progressive again tonight, but this time for only $16,000. He was so shocked. It was sweet and couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy!

The next post will be the only photos I managed to take.

Sorry you didn't have as much fun on your trip this time. I got myself in a "Vegas Funk" after almost 40 years of visiting Vegas, plus the crowds just got way too large for us to navigate through as we became older, so Sharon wanted us to venture out and play at other destinations like Tahoe, Laughlin, Chicago, AC, and Kansas City.

So we took almost a ten year break from Vegas and didn't go back again until this summer. Now it's fun again and so we're going again in the fall. Maybe you just need a break, but not ten years like we took, and I'm sure it will be fun and exciting again! :)

Thanks for the trip report!!
