Just checking around the TR website for a CET casino that allows smoking that is closer to our town than the 7 hour drive to Kansas City or Council Bluffs.

Found out that this one is only a little over 2 hours away, which is only an hour longer drive than to my local Isle of Capri. :)

I don't think we have any Jokers who live in Indiana, but has anyone here ever played there?

I've never been there! I'm assuming you're referring to Horseshoe in Hammond and not the Horseshoe in Southern Indiana.

Did not even know that there were two Horseshoes in Indiana.

goldengreeke, I've been to Horseshoe a bunch of times. They have a decent game selection and a pretty big slot floor. Their buffet is very good too.

Except... No way it's only 2 hours for you. It takes me at least an hour and a half to get there, and I'm in the suburbs! And whatever you do, don't go on a day when there's a White Sox game going on.... you'll be stuck in hell!

What about Harrah's Joliet for you guys? If you take 80 towards Chicago it's right there. That would be much shorter of a drive for you than Horseshoe! I will say though that I like the machine selection much better at Horseshoe, but I go to Joliet because it's closer to me.

Never mind, I see you're looking for one that allows smoking! Joliet has those little smoking areas outside since it's banned in Illinois.

From their web site "When you step into Horseshoe Casino, you’ll have your pick of the MOST slot machines in Chicagoland, over 3,000 machines, including 1,500 penny slots!"
Blase, from google and yahoo maps, it says
via I-88 E, 2 hr 15 min, 140 miles

Well I guess maybe since you live south of me, you might be able to bypass most of the traffic and get there in a little over two hours. I have to pretty much go right through the city (290 to 94) in order to get there and it's always a nightmare.

You'd definitely like the casino, Gene!

I have been there a bunch of times. When I go back to visit my family in Illinois it's actually the closest casino to where I grew up.
It is the one casino that seems to feel the most like Vegas near Chicago. Everyone smokes there since all the Illinois people who want to smoke go- so you'll be good. Great selection of games- seem to have everything.
Just might want to avoid the weekends, I was there once on a Saturday night and it was way too crowded to be comfortable there. Great diamond lounge there- way better than the other CET Properties- they basically have a buffet with enough where you can have a full meal there.

Thanks guys!:chuncky:
I was reading some reviews on TA and the only bad reviews came from the non smokers. They said the casino was full of a bunch of senior citizens sitting at the machines with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths.

Hell, that would make me feel right at home! Can't wait to go there now!! :):thumb::eagerness:

I will tell you all this. I LOVE CET!

I go to the Isle of Capri every Monday because I thought there were no CET casinos closer than a 14 hour round trip drive.

If I like this casino better, and it sounds like I will, I will switch locals and can achieve 7 Star status easily. Hell, I have 30,000 points in just 4 visits to CET properties, won't take long at 52 visits a year lol. :)

That's exactly what I told Laurie we should go the extra hour to KC all the time instead of our local the comps are so much better.

Horseshoe will start sending you some nice freeplay after you go. Heck, I only go there once per year and had a host start calling me, and that year I was barely a diamond player.

I like it but it's a brutal drive thru Chicago for me to get there...and there is no Hotel, I know they have some Hotels nearby and may offer nights. Joilet is a better ride and a hotel so I can bring beers down from the room...

Hi Gene

Happy Belated Birthday - Thoroughly enjoyed the B-Day M&G thread -I was rooting for you to get a Tahoe or Reno handy! I am new to the JWE forum but was a lurker on the other slot site. it seemed like the Jokers all enjoyed Tahoe, and I am hoping to be part of the upcoming AC event since that is my "local area"...

As the other responses indicate the Horseshoe Hammond is a pretty nice facility - very spacious with decent selection of machines , friendly staff, concert venue, Binions steakhouse, decent buffet, 7Stars/Diamond lounges, with reasonable access from I-94 or I-80.

The lack of an attached hotel makes you leave the property for sleeping and this has saved some BR$ on a few visits. There are some deals set up with some area hotels for casino players but I have never used any of them as my visits are linked with business trips in the Chicago vicinity .

Just my opinion but I feel the Horseshoe Hammond is a notch above Harrahs Joliet which always seems a little cramped and crowded.

ACinventor I thought Joliet was a little cramped also but only been there once.

Harrah's Joliet is definitely crowded and the selection of machines is not to my liking. We live right between Joliet and Hammond but it takes us 20 min. to get to Joliet and 40 to get to Hammond. That said with the change that Joliet made to their slot floor last year while we used to prefer going there as we are non smokers we now prefer to go to Hammond.

I really love Harrah's in North Kansas City, but it is so far to drive.

I will be comparing the two Harrah's for sure. I will find out if the slots at Hammond are as loose as KC's and will find out if their staff is as friendly also.

Also want to compare the Diamond lounges and Buffets.

As far as comparing CW service, unless we decide to spend the night, I won't be drinking.

Wow - I guess that I never really thought about the distance to specific CET properties for most of the gaming public. I am spoiled because I can get in my car and be at any of 4 CET properties (AC or PHL) in less than 1 hour.

Gene - shame that CET sold St. Louis to Hollywood a few years back as that was a very player friendly property like North KC - it did change when hollywood took over. I don't go there any more . Has anyone on board ever hit the CET "Metropolis" location - don't see any posts about this one.

Yeah- the host there at Horseshoe had offered me an off-site hotel but never took them up on it. I know for the higher level players they offer limo service to and from some of the higher end hotels in downtown Chicago. My parents live not too far south of the casino, so never took a hotel offer myself.

I went there a couple years ago when they had the visit casino's promo. Hit Joilet then Metropolis then Tunica(main destination) and St Louis on the way back. Metropolis was ok, was still mostly a boat(2 stories) with a add on in front and what looked like a decent size Hotel. I believe they are redoing it as Land based.

once you get on the Radar you should start getting the junket offers, I think they do Peoria and Rockford...Free Flights to Tunica, AC & Laughlin, they are well run and use nice planes....

Actually I am already getting North Nevada's Air junket offers.
Right now all the offers are to fly out from Rockford or Chicago.

Destinations are to Laughlin, Tunica, AC, Reno, and Tahoe...but no offers for Vegas.

goldengreeke Hubby and I have for many years gotten offers for junkets to all of those listed above but never for Vegas. We live in the Chicago area.

We have stayed in Reno (on a junket) and in Tahoe, Southern Ind, and KC and Council Bluffs all of these while on road trips.

I am curious how many people actually get junket offers to Vegas.

I was on a Junket last year with a couple that said they had gotten free Vegas trips thru http://www.grueningertravel.net/ They are a Junket Marketer in the Chicago Market. You could try calling them and see what they have to say, you are a bigger player than me. I do not understand how the system works but when I go on a Harrahs Junket I book thru Harrahs...Most others on the Plane book thru a junket operator, they seem to offer trips that Harrahs does not.

As far as I am aware. Harrah's does not offer Junkets at all to Las Vegas. sassycat would know more about it then I do. But I'm fairly certain that's the one destination they don't do.

the closest I ever came to an air offer, was $300.00 airfare travel reimbursement or $400.00 in FP

I have received a comp trip to Las Vegas, used it last year to take DD to Vegas for her 21st BD. it was not directly from Harrahs but through my local junket marketer. I mostly use them for AC but am pretty sure they would comp me to their other gambling destinations. Here's their latest flyer, wish I could have made the Tahoe dates coincide with the M&G. Like others said, I haven't heard of anyone getting comped directly from Harrahs for Vegas but it's probably possible.

To the best of my recollection the people said they took a commercial flight, but it was run like a junket...flight ride to the Hotel etc...Not sure if Harrahs ran it or the Junket operator and then Harrahs gives them something based on your play. They also said they went to New Orleans that way. Someday I will have to call again, the last time I did they said I did not qualify but I have upped my play some since then. I Finally started to get the AC junket offers, at first I only got Tunica and Laughlin.

That sounds just like mine. The trips to Vegas are booked commercial, we flew Southwest. When DH decides he wants to go with me I'll start taking advantage of the other destinations.
