What is the best cock on the cosmo slot floor? I hear there is some peach drink?

  3. #23
Evoni drinks peach bellinis. Peach and persecco (champagne) I think.

At Cosmo I sometimes go into a coma of cocktail indecision because there are so many choices.

On the casino floor I tend to avoid ordering drinks that involve fresh citrus juice, because it's usually been sitting too long and has become oxidized. This gives the juice an unpleasantly acidic, sharp quality. I've often wondered if the casino floor barkeeps use day-old juice leftovers from the property's "paid" bars. I've gotten some of the nastiest mojitos of my life playing slots at Cosmo, and (sigh) have given up ordering them there.

They do make a nice classic gin martini. Or I often ask for a negroni, because it's hard to screw up. (I am not trying to be trendy -- I've been ordering this drink since my early 20s. Besides, it was supposedly first created in 1919, which is a few years before I was in my 20s.)

Sometimes I just get a glass of sparkling wine. Or whatever their house white is, because it's generally not too toxic, and their wineglasses are cool. I love bellinis, but a lot of times on the casino floor they make them with just prosecco and peach schnapps, not actual peach purée, which to me is a fail. @Evoni and I once got an AMAZING bellini at Bond bar. It was absolutely perfect. Had to photograph it for ten minutes before I even touched it!

Their "chocolate martini" and their house cosmopolitan (made with white cranberry) are both really good if you prefer something sweet from the vodka kingdom.

I love tiki drinks, and I wonder if they'd be able to make a decent zombie or scorpion. Hmmm, maybe that will be my experiment there in April!

As good as the floor service is, it is still a world away from the cocktails you can get at Cosmo's signature bars in terms of quality, freshness, nuance, and originality. Supposedly Vesper is considered the serious cocktail aficionado's bar. Their menu is vast, and it's worth a visit just to admire the containers of fresh herbs and house-made syrups and bitters on display.

But my favorite Cosmopolitan bartender is Brannon at the top level of Chandelier. I think he only works weekdays until around 5pm, so I don't see him often, but he is an absolute master. When it's not busy and he has time, I like to have him make me off-menu creations of his own spontaneous invention. Then I get to name them! I just give him a few parameters, like "gin-based, herbal, with citrus" and he makes magical things happen. I think he was a chef before he became a bartender, and his mastery of flavor and balance reflects this experience. If you pay him a visit, be sure to tip generously -- you're in the presence of a great artist!

Here's one of the cocktails he made me. Don't remember exactly what was in this one (probably something gin-based, herbal, with citrus), but the sprig of fresh thyme was the perfect finishing touch:

Most of the time I order their signature Cosmopolitan drink which is made as of the last time I checked with them with Hanger One Mandarin Orange Vodka. I also like the raspberry lemon drops and their chocolate martinis. Yes, I tend to like a sweet cocktail unless they offer a spicy one.

You're correct that I order Belliin'is, but only at Bellagio and I prefer the frozen Bellini's.

A couple of other notable cocktails available at Cosmo's restaurants: the Gordon's Cup at Comme Ça (gin, lime, cucumber, freshly ground salt and pepper) and the Green Intensity at STK (vodka or gin, basil, lime, jalapeño).

Yum, I remember those bellini's at the Cosmo Bond bar, too bad we can't get the same quality on the casino floor. I remember ordering one of those mojitos to tell Cassie about it before she stayed the first time at Cosmo and how bad it tasted. I think we were playing the Sex in the City Slot at the time, LOL! I can't recall my favorite drink at the moment at Bond Bar but it is lemon based with a delightful 1 inch of foam on top.

Remember when we got those unusual drinks at the bar near the Cosmo pools? I think they used a lot of liquid nitrogen in their drinks? Was it called the Neapolitan?

OMG @Evoni, I totally forgot about the Neapolitan Bar at Cosmo! I think it's a seasonal (as in pool season) bar, so hopefully they'll open it back up later this spring. They did use a lot of liquid nitrogen, not to mention yummy ice cream and sorbets. Whatever it was that we got, I remember it was yummy, and a really fun experience!

And how could I forget that wonderful lemon foam drink at Bond? If you still have the photo of our first-ever ECC meeting, and would be willing to re-post it here, people can see you, me, @Laurie, @clemi, @Nhcris, and Brian all toasting with that drink.

I would love to post that photo of us and while I can see it clearly in my mind, after 30 minutes of looking for it I can't find it in my files or the trip report where I thought it was posted. Do you recall the month and year we had the first ECC?

While going through photos I did find a photo of the lemon foam drink at Bond and one of the Cosmopolitan that is free on the casino floor.
