Great question! Always use it first thing. Normally on a title I expect to play a good amount I like to warm it up on the casino's dime.
When I hit the Grand on Walking Dead I had only used my $200 FP and then $100 of my own.

I always use my Freeplay at the beginning of my trip. If I can convert Freeplay and play with their money instead of mine, it works better for me.

I'm like Big Mac. I always use my free play right up front and generally try to do it on higher denom machines.
I always use FP upfront with the hope of winning on it. If earn point play will use at end.
Always at the beginning...I have no self control!
The only time I do not use at the beginning is when they allow you to earn extra FP by getting so many points on a same day visit.
I will lump them all together and play before leaving.
