Well sounds like both MGM and Cesar's casinos are trying to cut back on free drinks for gamblers

For my locals, Oklahoma no free drinks so no worries I will just mix in my room, but may have to start doing that in Vegas too'

I been a server and yes that theft happens, a server will split off drinks before the final sale and pocket the cash then start a new ticket with those split drinks and over and over have extra $50 at end of shift.
But to punish a player, even a low roller is simply wrong and absurd. The amount of alcohol they get, they probably have so much of a discount that the actual cost of a bud light bottle is probably .50 cent. Playing $10 should warrant a "free drink." AND I don't want to hear they have to pay CW and bartenders as well. That is a different labor cost that I highly doubt is offset by slot play. I have sat at MGM bars and they demand $20 bet before they give you a drink. The problem is that I like to enjoy my drink at that moment as I'm spinning the reels. Not after the fact. Luckily, I talk shit with them and make them laugh or something and I get my drinks as I play. Although, I have seen them shoo away players trying to get a drink after a few min of playing. Don't make sense. At CET I had similar situations at the bar and I let them see me deposit a $20 and then low roll after I get my drink.....just to be a douche.
So yea I think that program is stupid. I shell out hundred or thousands and my logic is that I have gotten "retail" value of free drinks back so I basically paid to get myself drunk 100X over.
Too bad Mermaids is gone.....I'd have more beers than I carry in my lap and around the machines. They didn't have that stupid finish your drink before you get another rule....and if they did...well it was never enforced. God rest her soul! Thats all my rambling for now..I could fill up 20 pages on the subject.
I'm not surprised to see this... In the old days in Vegas they gave out lots of food & beverage for little to no money. The people came to gamble and that paid for it all. In Vegas now the gambling is only about 35% of the revenue in a strip casino so things have changed. No more good cheap buffets... They're good, but not cheap anymore. Nothing really seems cheap anymore in Vegas. Breakfast at the Cafe in MGM Grand the week before last was around $80 each day for 3 people with tip. Nothing special, some eggs, hash browns, bacon, & coffee.
Back in Colorado I saw many bartenders get fired for making comp decisions that were good for them, not so good for the house. There would always seem to be one place where the locals and/or casino employees could go and get free drinks by taking care of the bartender. Then the bartenders would get fired and everyone would be looking for the next spot and the cycle would continue.
I think that eventually all freebies will be tied to the player's card rather than systems like this...
seems to me the logical way to do it would be tie it in to the players card IF your hotel guest and then sort it out at the end when they total up every thing . if youve played enough regular line drinks would be free if not bust out the CC .dont know how they would do it if your not a guest at the hotel ..maybe a coupon or something .
At Margaritaville in Bossier City they are already starting to do that when you order drinks from the slot machine it will only let you order after so many minutes after the last one and you can tip the server with the money you have in your slot machine so no need for one dollar bills in your pocket
