    I have seen these old machines where it is hard to tell the difference between the red and orange on it.

    This is the right answer. First off, this guy is not some babe in the woods -- he is pulling on a $25 slot and knows the difference between orange and red on a double gold machine. Second, he hit three double orange 7's, which is a jackpot of $4,000 -- the article gives the impression that the casino is claiming only one of the symbols is an orange symbol. In fact, all three symbols are double orange 7's.
