A comparison between two CET properties

Sharon and I made a road trip to Horseshoe casino in Hammond Indiana Monday because it's 5 hours closer than my favorite casino, Harrahs in North Kansas City, MO.

1 Number of Slot machines-Horseshoe wins easily, they have 3,000 versus 1,500 at Harrah's KC

2 Diamond Lounge-Horseshoe wins easily again. Not only do they have longer hours open, they have a fantastic soup and salad bar and a menu where you can order anything from charbroiled salmon to chicken cordon blue, plus tasty sandwiches served on pretzel buns. All free of course.

3 Cleanliness- Harrah's wins this time. Horseshoe casino had lots of dirty cups and full ashtrays between the machines, probably from all those Illinois smokers who can't smoke in their state due to the smoking ban.

4 Drink service-Horseshoe wins easily. You order right from your machine and she shows up with your drink in less than two minutes!

5 Motel- no contest! Harrahs. Horseshoe doesn't even have one. Sleep in your car or take the free shuttle all the way to downtown Chicago.

6 Friendliness of personnel.Harrahs wins by a hair.

Looseness of slots- about equal, both properties are set at 92 percent payback.

Buffet-Horseshoe wins this, again by a hair.

We played for 8 hours and racked up 1,125 TR credits which will turn to 2,125 with the 1,000 point match. We kept our bets at $1 a spin average. We had 5 wins a little over $200.00 which we recycled
    .
Sharon lost $200.00 and I lost $90 in 8 hours play, which is a combined loss of about $18 an hour each. We probably ate $60 worth of free food.

It was a fun day and we will definitely go back again in the near future.

Thanks for the nice comparison, GG! The diamond lounge at Horseshoe sounds really nice, and I almost think I've never been in there from the way you describe it! What time were you in the DL?

So did it only take about 2 hrs to get there?

I'm glad you found a closer nicer place. Wow. Order from menu in lounge for free?! Fantastic.

Cool comparison GG. Sounds like Horseshoe is a winner except for the motel. Did you wind up staying at a nearby hotel?

The DL opened at 11:00AM and we went in at Noon. It took us 2 hrs and 35 minutes to drive to Hammond. There was quite a bit of road construction going on and we lost some time driving only 45-55 MPH.

Yeah that really surprised me. Our friendly waitress told us, "help yourselves at the salad bar while the kitchen is cooking your meal"

No, we just drove back since all I had was coffee all day instead of Crown

They had so many old Aristocrat machines there that I hadn't seen in years and they gave us good play time.

Harrahs in KC still ends up being our favorite casino mainly because of the attached hotel.

When we get done drinking and gambling all day and night, we like to stumble straight to our room. We don't want to stand around waiting for a shuttle to drive us a half hour or longer to downtown Chicago to stay at one of their affiliated hotels!

Also, when I wake up in the morning, I like to head straight to the casino floor.

The Diamond Lounge does sound nice.
Like the drink order from machines too. They do that in Council Bluffs and they are free unlike KC
Sounds like you got some good play time! Thanks for the report Gene!
