The line pays are so much better. I like to give the new flashy ones a try but always go back to the older Aristocrats for consistently good wins without having to chase progressives!

Does it have to be in the older cabinets or are the newer cabinets the same payback?

Can't really tell. There are newer versions of games like Pompeii, Buffalo, WWII, S&M, WOC still in production. Paybacks could be lower.
Games like Werewolf Wild, Red Baron, etc are stuck with the payouts that can't be set too low. Check the glass for a date, probably the best clue. It's what I use lol.
Last spring all the Buffalo slots here at my local Hollywood Ohio were changed to Nevada payouts to reduce volatility. They're the only Buffalo slots I've ever seen outside of NV with that payout (can't get 3x3x3x3x3 anymore. Only 1x2x2x2x3 now, excluding bonus)

I'm in agreement with this too. Especially love when I can find some of the rarer games that aren't around much.
I recall that a lot of these games didn't come in the lower paybacks below 90 percent anyway, so even at a tight casino, like a CET property in Vegas, these games can give some wins.
A 100x payback once in a while . A small chance at 1000x too.

After playing for about 2 minutes I noticed I never landed 3 buffs anymore except on R5. Didn't take long after that lol

All our buffalos here are 1 buffalo on reel 1 which sucks. The atlantis casino in Bahamas actually changed the buffalos to 3 on reel 1. The payout possibility is a huge difference obv.
I did notice that you dont get any credits for 2 elks in that version. Thats another way to tell which version your on.
I agree with all the comments so far. Except for a Konami now and then, old Aristos is all I play. I don't mind the lack of glitz either, as @Pat said. I'd rather have the big line hits, and the chance at huge bonuses. Being a lowly roller (.75-1.25), and playing Kenny style, DH and I have had several handys between us, as well as a bunch between $400-$900.
