Tahoe/Reno

Oldest son getting pinned for Senior Chief (Coast Guard) on May 1st in Petaluma. I have never missed any of his accomplishments and trying to make this one. Thinking about flying out on the 1st (should make it by 1:00 if we do real early flight) into San Francisco. Then driving to Lake Tahoe for a couple nights, possibly driving to Vegas for 2 nights and then fly out of there. Never been to Tahoe and this may be a good chance.

Mom is ending this regiment of chemo and starting a maintenance one next month and now our weekly trips to Savannah will stop, for now. It will be a pill now for 21 days and then off for 7. She has had no side effects but this next one doesn't sound too good. The price of this one coming up is 20,000.00 a month! Revlimid. Thank goodness her insurance is covering it. All will depend on how she is doing and if will be time to hire some nurses aides. So, will for sure book flight insurance in case things don't work out.

So, any and all suggestions as to where to stay, Reno? Tahoe? What property? Going to see if my AC host can hook us up out there and maybe even get us some FP or travel reimbursement. The Vegas nights will probably stay at PHO.

Tahoe is about a 4 hour ride from San Francisco- I have made that drive before lol. They had nice suite at Harrah’s Tahoe, have never stayed at Harvey but I will be staying there in April. The view from the Harvey Diamond Lounge is gorgeous so I hope I get a room with the same view when I go.

There are some other casinos in walking distance too.

Reno has a lot of other nice casinos that others can chime in on but I would not stay at Harrahs in Reno.

Thanks, thinking more Tahoe. We may spend the night in Petaluma after the ceremony, love that town. My son and girlfriend are thinking of coming to Tahoe for a night, to party with the folks, lol.

I would still recommend visiting some of the other area casinos in Reno since you have a car maybe Peppermill or Atlantis. I think there will still be snow there when you go.

Sounds good. This has been on my bucket list for years. Just so expensive to fly from here and since I need to see my boy, oh well!!

Yes I wouldn’t mind going there more frequently but the airfare is not cheap. You should use your 7 star trip and let them pay for it

If I’m not mistaken they will give you $200 for rental car if you don’t use limo for 7 star trip

I agree with what GG said above. If you are going through CET, I would stick with Tahoe. Your host should have no problem being able to set you up there. I was able to do the same with my host before I had play history there. Both Harrah's and Harveys are pretty outdated but still fine and have great views. I think Harrah's rooms are a little nicer and have the double bathrooms. Being you never have been to Tahoe you must go and see it.

I also would HIGHLY recommend you go to Reno and gamble too though. Atlantis is my favorite casino anywhere. It has a great selection of games and has the highest paybacks. I would go there all the time if I could. You'll notice a difference with the higher paybacks, makes the gambling way more fun. Grand Sierra is my second favorite there, love that place too. They are about a little over an hour from Tahoe if you have a car. I have stayed at Harrah's Reno too but always regret it. It's really run down and the casino is the tightest in Reno. I always end up leaving and playing somewhere else, yet they still send me nice offers.

I have done the Reno-Vegas drive many times. I will warn you, if you like road trips it's fine, but it's a pretty long boring drive. There's no interstate so it's mostly a 2 lane road and you can go fast until you get stuck behind a slow truck. It's so desolate that you'll see signs saying "no gas or services next 140 miles", etc. I have taken the other route through California, and it's more scenic but makes it more like an 8 hour drive. I love road trips so don't mind but others who have gone with me have said "I'm flying next time". Personally if it were me I would spend more time in Tahoe and Reno, I like them way more than Vegas now.

Definitely make a trip out of it being you have never been, you'll love it.

I love the road trips and maybe we will just stay there and fly out. Problem is, haven't been to Vegas in at least 2 or 3 years. Yearning for it.
Do not mind desolate roads. I hope this trip works out for us.

I've driven Tahoe/Folsom area to Vegas a few times. (son lives in Folsom) anyway the drive down the Calif valley is ok but I loved the desolate drive down East of the Sierras. Yes it is wide open and you have to watch for gas and potty stops. But to me that was so much better than West of the Sierras. Unless of course your stopping in Yosemite.

And this comes from someone raised in San Diego and spent her childhood camping through all of the state parks.

Then again any road trip is fun for me. You can't go wrong in Tahoe or Reno. I hope the trip works out for you.
